Just beware. 10 years ago, stupid people on here were saying all the things that Trump says now. But no politician would ever say such stupid things. Now they say the same lies.
Remember, 40% vote conservative here no matter what. 40% vote Democrat no matter what. So we fight to convince the other 20% to vote for us. The other 20% are stupid people. They don't follow politics. But Trump has been grooming them for decades. They think he's cool, smart, a good business man, honest, and he is NONE of these things. But they love him.
The conservatives in Germany just haven't found the right leader yet. This man will convince you all that liberals have ruined your country. They let in the immigrants. They caused the inflation.
Don't be so confident about the intelligence of the German people. We used to wonder how you could be so stupid to vote for Hitler. Now we know because we voted for a guy who is acting a lot like Hitler.
Yes Germans are more liberal than Americans. You believe in science, evolution, global warming is real, etc. You haven't been brainwashed. Half of our country has been brainwashed and now they run the country.
Anyone interested or watching politics or living in the US was aware that the US society is in majority conservative, churchy and quite racist minded - and keep in mind that usually 40% to 50% of the US population didn't bother to vote before 2004/2008 !! - that's a huge resevoir for radicals!!! coming from any political spectrum.
This became evidently clear when a black dude ran for US President - and all this racist, conservative and churchy feelings came up OPENLY, e.g. this birth certificate, etc. etc.
Those conservative, racist, churchy minded Americans were also amongst those voting for Democrats, not just Republicans.
After "enduring the shame" of 8 years being run by a Black President - the time was ripe for a Demagogue like Trump to step up.
IIRC the very same person had mentioned in an interview in the 90'ies? that if he would ever run for President he would chose the Republican party - due to it's dumb and gullible supporters. - he or his advisors knew exactly as to what he was talking about.
The Democrats IMO - never bothered to care about these sentiments boiling in the US society - but kept on with introducing laws that solely favored "minorities" - and thus creating even more resistance right down to hatred amongst these in "majority" conservative Americans. - who might not have voted before - and longtime conservative, racist and churchy Democratic supporters maybe simply abstaining from voting for the Democrat party?
As you very well know, Trump never came up with an own assessment - he simply regurgitated over and over the existing discontent amongst the US population, feeding them daily with their own discontent. And again the Democratic party chose to ignore all this in 2016, simply being happy with Obama and then in 2020 with Biden. And they did it again in 2024 - so sorry, but how stupid or ignorant must the Democratic Party be?
As for Hitler - sorry but that comparison of a socio/political era 100 years ago, simply doesn't hold or is applicable in today's Germany.
We had around 3-5% Nazi minded folks after 1949 - that increased to around 7-8% due to the reunification - aka East-Germans.
The general opposition amongst Germany's population is in reference to a national bureaucracy and even more increased bureaucracy due to the EU - that simply damaged Germany's economic situation and outlook.
Woke and Lefty/Lib indoctrination conducted by ALL parties and coalitions for more then 40 years - added to a rise in conservative views, beheld foremost by Germans who simply want to be proud of Germany or so called German values. And had been immediately denounced as being Nazis by those lefty/Libs, thus bringing those 7-8% Nazi folks, back from the shades into the political light.
The final spark was this migration idiocy brought upon by a Conservative Government!! thus tremendously helping the AfD to jump from an obscure 3-5% to 12% and now to around 17% .
The vast difference between Germany and the USA - are our laws and it's enforcement - specifically e.g. libel lawsuits and a strict legal enactment towards defamation and intentional spread of nonfactual statements aka LIES.
A German Trump would have been impeached during his first stint - sued to financial death, and very, very likely sentenced to prison. Not even to mention instigating an insurrection and claiming without any evidence that an election was stolen from him.
What enabled Hitler to gain power or a Trump in the USA, was (as Goebbels had put it), using the democratic freedom to crush a democracy, and that main decisive factor in the Germany of the 20'ies and 30'ies if you like it or not - was FREE SPEECH. And in 1949 of the new Germany and it's "given" constitution this FREE SPEECH was very clearly defined.
