A partner and me used to run an own Forum from 2007 to 2018 - with about 40% of members being Americans - and the racial HATE in regards to Obama became evident, as in many other American Forums - WAY BEFORE he even took office, therefore out of any context as to e.g. rightfully criticizing his performance or policies.

As for racial equality in the USA since the 60'ies - Amongst many other US military bases I have been to, Ft. Sill Oklahoma, where segregation e.g. in the Officers mess, had only been abolished in 1974/5! - And I have seen more then enough of racial motivated incidents in the USA.

Most of the Indian volunteers and Cape-Malays had a jolly good time in the Navy - and as in any other Asian country, mostly enrolled in clerk, administrative, logistics or police service, the majority was relegated to the Commando system (under Police authority) e.g. Natal Command or to the Citizen Force.
