What did our founders really mean when they said “general welfare”?

There's no such thing. The minority can't pass laws and force its will on the majority. Liberals like to scream "minority rule" whenever the majority isn't allowed to force its will on the rest of us. Especially when the Constitution prevents them from doing so. They hate that shit.
They conflate the term with the idea that a minority of people can elect someone.

They have no clue as to why the Constitution was set up the way it was.

BTW: Big thank you's to Kristen Sinnema and Joe Manchin

They can block legislation until their demands are met.

Minority rule

That's not "ruling". That's saying you need real consensus before you can force your will on others. We need more of that.
What it actually means is gridlock

What it actually means is gridlock
If you want to call it that. But we shouldn't pass federal legislation unless there's broad agreement on the matter. Slamming contentious laws through with a slim partisan majority is bad for the country.

In the Constitution, After "WE The People," this is one of the things it says. "Promote the general Welfare."
Define “PROMOTE” and then define “GENERAL”…Only then can you beggars see that you have no right to free shit. Be ashamed of yourself.

Our government, regardless of party, promotes special interests believing that it will help everyone (general welfare). How deluded can they be. :(

It means the welfare of the states. Maintain roads, build municipal necessities. Not seeing to the needs of individuals. They knew that a dependent is created it will never end.

Welfare has taken generations of human beings and turned them into house pets or zoo animals that never developed the ability to provide for themselves.

We do these people no favors by seeing to their general welfare.

You're all missing the point. The founders wanted us to look out for the welfare of this guy:

If you voted for Trump there’s a good chance you’re a lot like me with regard to why....I voted for him on two policies almost exclusively...First and foremost on how he would deal with illegal Mexicans and the border and second on how he would yank lowlifes off the Democrat induced welfare plantation.
Anyhoo, as we approach the point where welfare reform will be visited I ask for your opinions on EXACTLY what you think our founders meant when they used the phrase “GENERAL WELFARE” in the constitution?

Attention all Smartest Guys In The Room, and legal scholars:
Please spare us the case citations such as the U.S. vs Butler case and the like. I’m interested in YOUR opinions.
To the good of The People. That's all.

It was Madison who used the term. And in Federalist 45 he makes it clear that the federal government is a specific government. It has a corridore of activities and is not stray outside of them.

Therefore, as he later explained, it is clear General Welfare means the ability to do whatever it needs to do to perform it's SPECIFIED DUTIES.

Again, for the terminally STUPID, if it meant anything is allowed then they would not have SPECIFICALLY put the list of allowed powers in the document.

Never been interpreted like that

If you think a law is unconstitutional, you are welcome to challenge in court

Why don’t ya?
