What did our founders really mean when they said “general welfare”?

Nonsense. For one thing the kind of people who lived at that time did not practice nor support most of your drivel. Build a bridge, yes. Care for the old, the poor, even widows and orphans, not on your life. Take care of yourself, go to your family, go to your church, go to a noblesse oblige charity. The government didn't care.

That's what made us such a strong country. We were a stronger people.
psst, they are all brainwashed that they are owed more than you and I hard workers. Didn't you know lazy is their key bullet item to worship?

You do not accept the general definitions of those words.

In the 1770s, "general welfare" generally meant the well-being and prosperity of the nation as a whole, encompassing the health, safety, morals, and peace of its people. It emphasized the duty of the government to act in the best interests of all citizens, not just a select few or even a majority at the expense of a minority. This included striving to promote the health, happiness, and prosperity of all members of society, and it was a widely accepted concept that all governments had a duty to do so.

Your definition supports that which the alt, far, and maga right are attacking.

Do you really think promote and fund are synonymous?
Do you think general and individual are synonymous?

rightwinger

Do you realize Government does things by funding it?
Do you realize the Constitution says both promote and provide?
Do you realize that helping individuals helps the overall population? Not every bill helps everyone equally

Our founders understood that future generations would have different priorities than their own.

Before Republicans comment on such topics they need to catch up to reality.

Red states are economic basketcases for following failed conservative policies for the last 150 years.

Most of them are horribly polluted and dangerous to raise children in because of the nasty pollution.

Then there’s the lack of education.

In fact it’s so bad in so many red states that in the entire Appalachian area infant mortality rates are rising and life expectancy is falling.

Republican conservatism is not really a failed policy. It’s a disguised policy. The whole point of it is to fuk most Americans and everything they do is aimed at helping needy billionaires.
Hmmm, and not one word about "General Welfare" Reading comprehension isn't something you learned in the free education you were provided as part of the "General Welfare" eh?

The AI post encapsulates what the normal meaning of those words are in the Constitution.
Maybe you should quit putting your stock in ARTIFICIAL intelligence and attempt to embrace the REAL thing, donkey. A quick check of the dictionary clearly shows that PROMOTE and PROVIDE have two different meanings.

The Constitution says BOTH promote and provide for the General Welfare
