In Hebrew, adam means tribe of society. We are to read the Bible as if it is talking directly to our individual and collective mind. This is clear when we read the Bible that says created we man and woman and called them adam. This is better than the rib woman stupidity that they used to show that the source of evil was Satan. Adam and Eve were created in Genesis 2. By the separate description of Adam being created and then later Eve, the story shows something special about Adam and Eve different from the original humans.

Maybe they were the first humans with souls. Maybe they were pro-Jews in some way.

So when Cain was banished, he was banished to live with people outside of his specially created family.

That's how I read it. I'm no theologean or Biblical scholar.
