Doesn't take a rocket scientist to learn a trade, maybe we should be funding trade schools instead of encouraging more dumb kids to go to college so they can go into debt for their useless degrees.

Or free training. They offer that in the military, and in my industry, companies are willing to train you for free just as long as you sign a one year contract to work for them. We are still short 50,000 divers; many of them now making 80K a year or more.

They may be smarter but they are not better looking..Do you and the rest of your ilk can only imagine that fast food workers are the only ones with lower than needed pay? I mean hell I make seventy five to over two hundred an hour as a self employed contractor..I pay my help more than anyone else cause it is needed to help raise their family.
Well good for you sounds like Capitalism at work. Impressive for a Socialist "Moon Bat"! And lots of under educated people work for lower wages in Service jobs and labor jobs until they gain skills needed to make themselves more valuable to their employer. I'm sure you Pay top dollar even to the least skilled workers you have . And Narcissism is a trait displayed by Sociopathic Personalities you expose a little more of yourself with every post. Hire me I'll only ask for 40 an hr./ skilled help is more expensive isn't it?:re:

The problem isn't finding people the problem is finding the right people. The problem this country has is the youth have been told they are worth a lot more than employers are willing to pay them until they show some initiative and dedication to the company. I don't want to train someone to do a job only to have them leave and have to hire and train someone else because they got offered a dollar more an hour to work at Burger King. I've hired a few college grads who had real potential but showed no initiative or drive, and way over estimated their worth with no experience in the field.

That's why many companies rely on temp services these days. You get to try out an employee long before hiring them. A few of our customers will only hire exclusively through temp services for that reason. They figure if a person is willing to work for lower pay, be on time every day, do the job with the ability and desire to learn, those people are worth offering a job to.

The major problem in our country today are all the drugs. Many companies drug test and these younger people won't give up the dope to secure a job or career. It's happening in our industry and industries across the country.

My father made a damn good living and pension being a bricklayer. Granted, it's very hard work. But the pay is around 50 bucks an hour with benefits and you are always in demand. The problem is the only people willing to do the work are those that can't pass a drug screen.

It doesn't matter whether a product is legal or not. Alcohol is legal, but if it's traced in your system, you can run into problems on the job.

As a driver, they have the ability to test me for "residual alcohol" which means if you drank too much the night before, they can give you a problem. They go by fractions of a percent to make that determination. What they say is, that you need at least ten hours since your last drink to pass should you get tested, but I would guess that all depends on how much you had to drink.

Same thing with using a firearm in public. You are not allowed to have any alcohol in your system if you carry and have to use a firearm for defense.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that I agree with it, it's just to demonstrate the priorities of young people today. They called us the drug generation, but most people when I was young would have gladly given up the pot for a good paying job. Kids today will not. They will simply stay at home with their parents and cry because their McDonald's job doesn't pay enough and we need a minimum wage hike.

So you literally just proved that government coercion isn't need. :lmao:

(By the way...everyone here knows that you live off of welfare)
Come on out some day and move a couple of tons of masonry and then tell me that.

Why should I? I have an education. I pay unskilled people to do that work.

I bet MOON SHIT has the softest hands. At least I hope so. Probably couldn't sit around and jerk off on the USMB all day with bricklayers hands! Just sayin':abgg2q.jpg:

Right ? I would base it on the work ethic! Don’t like it? Until you figure out how to get off of minimum wage then we will dumb down the idea because my generation is just a lazy *beep*. I want this, I want that, I’m entitled to earn a $15 because a old white man says. I’m 24 years old and I don’t really have this viewpoint. The way I look at it is you are not entitled unless you’re busting your chops then of course.

I think part of the problem is younger people grew up entitled. Their parent(s) gave them everything well beyond their childhood.

When I was a young man, you were encouraged to start using your new wings. You dreaded the thought of living at home with your parents. In my day, your parents were not your friends, they were your parents and you couldn't wait to be on your own.

I knew people who were forced out of the house the day they turned 18. They were told by their parents, the day you reach 18 is the day you are an adult, and we no longer need to care for you. You grow up pretty quick under those circumstances.

And mind you social programs back then are nothing like they are today. They helped, but you couldn't' make a lifestyle out of them.

If they are receiving those higher wages due to artificial limits enacted by elected representatives, it is not the free market.

Sure it is. If the workers elect officials that further their interests, that's exactly the way out election system is supposed to work. Add that to their free market demands, and that makes you a whiny socialist. Why do you hate America and the free market?

The election system and the free market are two separate entities, they are not the same thing you dumb bitch.

In a free market the wages are set by the market, not by law makers. Law makers set artificial minimum wages because they think the free market is not paying people enough.

Is there a contest today to see how can post the stupidest shit the earliest?

The market is anything that effects production and distribution and wages. The workers are certainly allowed to use any means to demand the price of their own labor, just like owners are allowed any means to increase their profit. That's why the free market sucks without reasonable limits.

No, that is not correct. Government regulations affect the market, they are not the market.

In a free market you wage is set by your value to your employer and what the market will bear.

Owners regularly spend vast amounts of money to elect politicians who will reduce safety regulations, and other things that reduce the unit cost of labor. Workers receive less pay and higher risks as a result, any you don't seem to have a problem with that, but when workers are able to elect politicians that will work for their needs, you whine. You love workers absorbing risks that should rightfully be the responsibility of the owners, Socialism for the rich is just fine for you.

Where do you find these rollbacks of safety laws? I work in construction, and the amount of safety is insane, and its almost always the companies that institute the restrictions.

EVERYTHING in the workplace is controlled today. And all of it is for the worker.

Mark

Lets say that the minimum wage is 10 bucks an hour. And tomorrow, they raise it to 15. Will the mechanic or the hairdresser making 15 dollars today be happy making 15 dollars an hour tomorrow when that becomes the minimum wage? Doubtful. So, in short order, all wages will cascade upwards, and the earning power of the dollar will decline so that the buying power of the dollar will roughly equal what it did when wages were 10 bucks an hour.

And then we are back to square one...

EXCEPT for those who live on a fixed income, like Social Security. Their real buying power will go down.

The companies institute the safety programs because their insurance requires it. Those companies don't care about you. They just don't want to have to pay if you get hurt.

The market right now is short handed and the price to do business is in the positive position, unlike eight years ago when they were wanting to pay bum wages.

I would agree, if the job market was anything like it was when I was in high school or even before, but it isn't, and neither is being poor anything like it was then or before, either. The fact is the 'new economy' is producing shit jobs at far higher rates than 'skilled' jobs, off-shoring is still going on, and green cards and criminal illegal immigration was not a factor when I was coming up, even with being on the tail end of a huge 'baby boom' to deal with; the population was stabilizing and even decreasing, which is just what was needed with the massive increases in productivity and automation then going on. There were jobs like sacking groceries and gas station attendants for kids, many of which could be very well paying since people still tipped back then; being a sack boy part time at the new Skaggs-Albertson grocery chain over the 'rich' neighborhood in the afternoons, with a job at the front gate of the local drive-in movie made me self-supporting at 14. Try that now for the average kid even at 16 or 18 these days. to get a job on a forklift at a warehouse didn't require going through a temp agency shithole competing with criminal illegal aliens and having to pay to get some fake ' certification', either, and at the time those paid $2.50 an hour and up around here, where a garage apartment could easily be found for $40 a month.

We're talking about minimum wage jobs here. Nobody's life is in danger by working at McDonalds. Ya know, unless it's located in a black neighborhood.

We're talking about people who have to feed their families and put a roof over their heads.

No, we're talking about rude ass teenagers who can't even get your order right half the time.

How many fast food workers are adults?
Half of fast-food workers are 23 or older. Many teenagers do work in fast- food, but the majority of fast-food workers are not teenagers. (percent of all fast-food workers) 16-19 30.0 20-24 30.7 25-54 36.4 55-64 1.9 65+ 1.0 Source: Authors' analysis of the Current Population Survey.
If you're working full time at some fast food joint for 30 years then you are doing so because you want to

The facts just don't agree with that.

The fact is that if you get a job at a fast food joint at 16 and are working the same job at 46 then you are either too mentally disabled to do anything else or you do not want to do anything else.
