It was over-hyped mainly because it was heading towards THEIR HOMES and THEIR STUDIOS...
Had this thing gone inland at Cape Hatteras, we'd have been back to normal programming Saturday morning...
A lot of us with Hurricane experience (that's the Fla in FlaCalTenn), realized early on that Irene's path was gonna take it OUT of the Gulf Stream at Cape Hatteras and into waters that would sap it of energy pretty quickly.
Virtually NO chance of re-intensifying after the Cape.. Every indication of HAVING to weaken.
If there is even a HINT of Repub/Dem foolery here -- It's that those Dems have watched to many Eco-Horror movies about phoney weather disasters caused by man..
Any deaths are regrettable -- except the avoidable ones like the elderly guy who had the heart attack while frantically putting up his shutters. Geraldo caused that one. And maybe the Darwin Award eligible ones like the usual surfer who thinks an extra 6 ft on a wave is no prob..
