Oil and gas subsidies are a matter of national security. They would get subsidies regardless, and they have been getting them since the days of Ike, when we realized that the nation the produces and uses more oil, is more successful on the battle field. A good portion of Germany's strategic plans in WWII had to do with going after reliable sources of oil, (In the mid-east and Bakku,) it is also why war broke out between the U.S. and Japan.

Anyone that studies history knows this.
