Israel INTENTIONALLY attacked USS Liberty to trick the goy into fighting their war.

Not to mention all the SOS calls
My brother did a paper in Annapolis about it. It documented the log on the bridge, showing the flag logged as they attacked.

Yes aircraft from our carrier turned around once they knew it was Israel attacking.

And yes they called Israel saying WTF.

But a War of 2.5 million versus 100 million arabs was going on. Israel was in a fight or die situation. Fighting on 3 fronts they kicked the arabs armies asses.

A Miracle basjcally

Attacking USS Liberty was a miracle?

Or were they doing it to draw America into their war? They didn't just attack the ship, they tried to ensure their were no survivors.

Greatest allie ever...

Israel has been labeled a threat to America and needs to be totally cut off.

An incident from 1967 and you bring it up now to cut them off? LOL
We should cut the UK off because of the revolutionary war then plus 1812

secret recording from almost 60 years just happens to surface now.......yeah right

There is a stark divide between the official conclusions of government investigations and the convictions of the survivors and several high-ranking U.S. officials.

1. The Official Finding: A Tragic Mistake

Both the United States and Israeli governments conducted multiple official investigations (including a U.S. Navy Court of Inquiry and several congressional inquiries) that concluded the attack was a case of mistaken identity compounded by the "fog of war."

During the height of the Six-Day War, Israeli forces believed they were being shelled from the sea near El-Arish. The official consensus of these reports found that:

  • Misidentification: Israeli operators mistook the USS Liberty for the El Quseir, an out-of-service Egyptian horse-cavalry transport ship that had a somewhat similar silhouette but was much smaller.
  • Communication Breakdowns: The U.S. military had actually ordered the Liberty to move farther away from the coast, but due to severe message-routing delays, the ship never received the order. Simultaneously, Israel's naval tracking board had briefly marked the ship as American earlier in the day but cleared the board, meaning the active combat units were unaware of its presence.
  • Diplomatic Resolution: Israel apologized for the error and paid millions of dollars in compensation to the U.S. government, the injured survivors, and the families of the 34 men who were killed. The U.S. government officially accepted the apology and closed the matter.

2. The Counterargument: It Was Intentional

Despite the official reports, many USS Liberty survivors, including the ship's captain, William McGonagle, and several top-tier U.S. political and intelligence officials, have adamantly maintained that the attack was deliberate.

Prominent figures who publicly rejected the "accident" explanation include:

  • Dean Rusk (U.S. Secretary of State at the time)
  • Admiral Thomas Moorer (Former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff)
  • Richard Helms (Director of the CIA at the time)
Those who argue the attack was intentional point to several key factors:

  • Perfect Visibility: The attack occurred on a clear afternoon following hours of close-up Israeli aerial reconnaissance flights. Critics argue it is impossible that trained pilots failed to recognize a highly sophisticated American intelligence vessel.
  • The American Flag: Survivors testify that the ship was flying a clean, large American flag that should have been clearly visible to the pilots.
  • The Nature of the Attack: The assault lasted for over an hour, involving multiple waves of fighter jets using napalm and machine guns, followed by torpedo boats. Proponents of the intentionality theory note that the Israelis jammed American radio frequencies and allegedly strafed lifeboats, which they argue indicates an intent to sink the ship and leave no survivors.
  • Potential Motives: Various theories have been proposed as to why Israel would do this. The most prominent is that Israel wanted to prevent the U.S. spy ship from intercepting communications showing that Israel was about to launch an invasion of Syria's Golan Heights—an action the U.S. was trying to prevent.

Summary

The historical record is split. If you look at official state documents and diplomatic conclusions, the attack was an egregious, negligent accident born of wartime chaos. If you look at the testimony of the men who survived it and the intelligence leaders who analyzed it in real-time, it was a deliberate act covered up for geopolitical convenience. Because key files remain classified or disputed, a definitive, universally accepted answer does not exist.

This doesn't pass the smell test. Here (in my conversation with AI) are some easily verifiable facts.

That was one of the conspiracy theories.

How do you draw them into a War by attacking. Our fleet had attack on radar and launched fighters against it.

Hardly gonna HIDE THAT
