What We Believe CAN Be Consciously Chosen.

"We cannot consciously choose what we believe."__ Internet Poster

The Bible specifically contradicts and repudiates that claim.

Christendom's core Bible verse, John 3:16, assumes that humans
can choose what they believe. "For God so loved the world that He
gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not
perish but have eternal life." We CAN choose to believe that
John 3:16 is the truth and get the gift of eternal life ~ or we can
choose not to believe John 3:16 is true and get John 3:16's
perish.

"choose you this day" , , ,

"And if it seems evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day
whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served
that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites,
in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve
the LORD." Joshua 24:15

This also involved consciously choosing what one would believe. There
was a set of beliefs behind them choosing to serve the Lord.

Human Sin and the desire to protect that sin and to continue to sin,
is the father of the notion that beliefs cannot be consciously chosen.

When a person allows themselves to believe that beliefs cannot be
consciously chosen that means they can say to themselves: "Hey I have
no control over what I choose to believe, therefore I will NOT repent of my
sins and believe in God because I know that doing that would require
me to give up my sinning." Here we can list our your most enjoyable
sins that we want to hang on to.

Believing that beliefs cannot be consciously chosen will allow us to keep
on enjoying our favorite sins ~ and THIS, at bottom, is what UNBELIEF is all
about and has ALWAYS been about.

Free Will is heavily assumed throughout the Bible and the entire Bible
is written on the assumption that beliefs CAN be consciously chosen, and
in fact one's eternal destiny is based upon what one chooses to believe.

I don't believe what they claim in the Bible as far as the supernatural and the creation story. I was raised a Baptist.

This looks like material that some believe, but I don't see anything about how one can consciously decide to believe it. God bless you though.

Belief goes both ways. Devils believe and tremble. All that is seperated from God will be no more when Jesus shows up with power and great glory. Jesus did not condemn in John 3:17. Will they that condemn zoosexuals, pedophilia people, and gays survive, when Jesus did not condemn, when he walked among us?

I don't believe what they claim in the Bible as far as the supernatural and the creation story. I was raised a Baptist.
Then you don't believe that Christ was the Messiah of prophecy? You are an antichrist? :dunno:

If you can't accept what Jesus declared as truth then you are antichrist (against Christ). You can't pick and choose TRUTH, its either true or its not true. Christ believed the Genesis Creation Model was truth. Jesus said that man was created in the beginning as male and female (Matt. 19:4-6).

If anyone argues that the Genesis 1 (the creation model) is nothing but a lie or an allegory, then what does that make all the other verses in the Bible that reference Genesis 1 as truth? Jesus taught that His doctrines were of God (Matt. 7:15-17)

This doctrinal teaching comes to us today through the teachings and the record left by the apostles of Christ (Acts 2:42).
It was recorded for our benefit in the future (1 Thess. 2:13) We are admonished to receive it as TRUTH not hearsay.
How is that some argue for women preaches when the Bible contains (1 Cor. 14:34)?
How is that people argue for homosexual members and preachers when the Bible contains (1 Cor. 6:9-10)?
How do some advocate for sexual relationships outside the bonds of marriage when the Bible says, (Heb. 13:5)?
IT'S BECAUSE SOME (LIKE YOU) ARE NOT PERSUADED THAT THE ENTIRE BIBLE IS ABSOLUTE TRUTH (John 17:17).
Therefore like you they believe that truth can evolve to adapt to societies social mores' instead of allowing the Bible to mold their morality.
TRUTH!

Yet its doctrine that exists in the Bible that actually sows the seeds of our salvation (Rom. 6:17-18, 1 Tim. 4:16)
In Fact we are to be on guard against false doctrines and their variations of truth (a half truth is an entire lie). -- Eph. 4:14-15
You must remain within the bounds of sound doctrine (2 John 9:11)
You see the Bible teaches that God created the entire universe by HIS WORD (Ps.33:6-9, Acts17:24-26)

CONCLUSION:
If you can change one doctrine.......then they all can be changed, and that's what happening today......people are not adhering to sound doctrine.......as the doctrine found in scripture is our only weapon against the deceit and lies used against us. Its the very source by which truth can be calibrated in relation to TRUE CHRISTIANITY

Guard against false knowledge, "O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, AND OPPOSITIONS OF SCIENCE FALSELY SO CALLED; Which some professing have erred concerning the faith. Grace be with you, Amen." -- 1 Tim. 6:20-21.

It is true that Jesus made male and female. They that are saved are spiritually married to Jesus, being one with him, thus are married to him. They that are married to Satan's spirit will be born of fornication. A liar will be in them. A liar is in the Taliban saying they pray five times a day. Jesus prayed to the unseen Father without ceasing. Jesus will be married to the saved. The saved will not be its. Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats will be the only things that will be destroyed. Being like the angels is being immortal. Jesus is immortal, and male. The would be no money with nice things being made. We could be nude, when we wanted, not being bothered. It would be peacful. People could interact with animals in the way they wanted, with no one bothering them.

Yes and No JAG

The issue that biases people's ability to believe or change their beliefs/perception is FORGIVENESS vs Unforgiveness.

If we do not agree to let go of Unforgiveness, nothing not even God can change our minds or beliefs.

Some things the human mind cannot forgive/let go without higher help or influence from outside sources.

So this becomes a vicious cycle.

As long as we refuse to forgive, we cannot change our perceptions or others, so we stay stuck.

We cannot help the fact we stay stuck in unforgiveness.

Asking help to receive Forgiveness is the first step, and then it becomes possible for negative attitudes to change to neutral or positive.

Our beliefs may not change, but our perceptions of working together regardless of conflicting beliefs can change.

Another that can't see the forest for the trees? Christianity has never been about "physicality"......its a Spiritual Endeavor in bringing "hope" to a world that was created with an expiration date. Read carefully just how God is omni-potent, omni-present, and omniscient. (Acts 17:24-28) We do not live in a physical universe, WE LIVE AND HAVE OUR BEING WITHIN GOD. God being a spirit simply spoke THE WORLD into existence........He is the source, the energy that preexisted everything and created everything.

The false religions seek after that which is physical.......a physical kingdom that cannot and has never existed.

From the time we are born we are seeking, groping, crying ABBA (Father) having an innate knowledge that we control nothing.....we live and have our being by the divine Grace that is God. We do not live in a physical universe, we are engulfed within the God of creation, thus the power and greatness of God is revealed. His omnipotence, His omnipresence, His omniscience. Would you not know and comprehend every part of your self......down to smallest single cell?

The revelations found in scripture is God's method of communicating to mankind......even with all the revelations that God has decreed we should know......i.e., the Knowledge of the Truth (2 Tim. 2:4)....we as men can just scrape the surface of all that is GOD, as His ways are beyond the simple knowledge that man can attain. (Isa. 40:28).

The best we can do is accept our place as inferior to He that created us......bend a knee in constant prayer with the comprehension that we truly control nothing........we live and breathe by the divine will of the Father. The scriptures BRING US HOPE THROUGH TRUTH. It is truth that sets one spirit free. (John 8:32)

No one man is better than the next.........the rain falls on the just and the unjust. Christians are promised nothing extra in this life.......the sinner and saint alike.....live, love, hurt, suffer and die. Christianity brings us HOPE for eternity when our spirit goes back to the Father that shared with us for just an instant in time, like a mist......its His revelations, through THE WORD spoken and revealed by the Christ that will judge how we lived here for just awhile (John 12:48)

Just as we exist within the God of Creation and have our being............the kingdom of God must rest (not in this physical world) but within the heart of he that believes. (Luke 17:20-21) We must complete the circle to finally realize that which we sought and groped after........WE HAD ALL ALONG. God has never left us, never deserted us.........we attempt to run from the truth that is God and its a race you can never win.

We CAN Consciously Choose What We Believe.

The right to choose is the greatest gift God has given us.
Since God is all powerful, He could make us be good, but then if He did we would be nothing more than puppets on a string.
puppet.jpg

We are not, we were given the right to choose.

Belief is a choice. The sad fact is that most "believers" do not perceive the choice. People so often say they were born into a faith. It is inculcated from the start of their life. Choosing never seems to play a part. Though this is true of many other aspects of life, it is especially glaring in the case of religions.
It is tragic when a being as glorious as a human can be functions as merely an automaton.

We are not, we were given the right to choose.
The vast majority of humans who have ever lived were not given any "choice', because they had never heard of your god or your preferred mythology. Or only heard a little about it, and it wasn't good.

Seems to be a pretty glaring failing in the plan. Astounding negligence, on the part of God.

Belief is a choice.
I have never been able to consciously choose any of the beliefs that I have nor has anyone that I have asked ever demonstrated such an ability.

So since you seem to be saying that you can consciously choose to believe things I wonder if you might explain how you do it? What do you do at the last moment to instantly change your one state of belief to another? What is it that you do that would allow you to say, "OK, at this moment I don't believe that ‘x’ exists or is true, but I choose to believe that ‘x’ exists or is true and now instantly at this new moment I do believe that ‘x’ exists or is true?

Maybe something like leprechauns could be used to demonstrate your technique. According to the Encyclopedia Britannica, a leprechaun is "a fairy peculiar to Ireland, who appeared in the form of an old man of minute stature, wearing a cocked hat and a leather apron" and who stores away his gold in a pot at the end of a rainbow and If ever captured has to grant three wishes to the person who captures him.

So, assuming that you don’t already have a belief in them, how about right now, while you are reading this, choose to believe - be convinced without a doubt - that they exist. Now that you believe in leprechauns, my question is, how did you do it? How did you make the instantaneous transition from lack of belief to belief?
