Let’s say someone shows up 260 lbs with an A1c it 12. Are you going to tell them to go lose weight and eat healthy? They don’t need any medications?

Hell no. Here’s why.

Statistically, they’re probably going to fail. So you can tell them that, and a year goes by and they’re still 260 lbs and an A1c of 13. You’re just wasted a year and they’re been subjected to uncontrolled diabetes with the risk associated with that.

So what do you actually do? You start meds. You start meds and then tell them how to eat. You open they listen. If they do, and they do lose a lot of weight. Great! The meds go away.

The only difference here is that the risk of failure and the total burden of disease his higher with the overly childish and simplistic way of thinking.

Yes. That's the first presumption when you see a person. You don't immediately prescribe drugs to someone. Poor diet is the leading causes of A1c's that high. If you can correct it with proper lifestyle and dietary advice, then do it. Your first instinct is to leap to medications and that's what's wrong overall with American society, an overreliance on medications.
