Washington state plans to ban most non-electric vehicles by 2030

Did he sign it? yes

So we completely agree that this new law came into effect through perfectly legal and honest means ...

Oh right, you don't have due process there in Russia, do you? ... here in the United States, anyone can sue the State of Washington in a court of law arguing that this law infringes on their constitutional rights ...

Which constitutional right is being infringed here? ... keep in mind, in most places, driving on public roads is a privilege ... not a right ... we can say which kind of cars are driven on the public roads ... for many many years Ladas were banned on American roads ... and not for safety or environmental reasons ... just because we Americans hate Ladas ... don't want to see them on our streets ...

Since no such right exists, any lawyer bringing such an action before a court would be in violation of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 11 which provides that a district court may sanction attorneys or parties who submit pleadings for an improper purpose or that contain frivolous arguments or arguments that have no evidentiary support. *

I just became aware of this Rule 11 in an article about Smartmatic demanding sanctions be lain against My Pillow Guy Mike Lindell's lawyers for bringing countersuit against Smartmatic and Dominion Voting Systems.

he could have not signed it. Or don't you think that is an option? What if I buy a gas car in another state and drive it there? Am I allowed in? Not sure why I'd go there, but there is that.

Who will provide all of the vehicles? Will there be enough?

What do you believe is wrong with such a program? Do the US or Washington state constitutions guarantee the right to own ICE vehicles?
find out if they will have enough resources to handle all electric cars on their grid?

The law does not prevent ICE vehicles from entering the state. It simply plans the elimination of ICE vehicles owned by Washington state residents.

yeah, so what's to stop someone from going out of state for an ICE vehicle? Will they show up at their door and repossess it? You all are fking clueless.

Most high schoolers could answer this jc. You are legally required to register your vehicles in the state in which you reside.

And? Any High Schooler could have answered that.

They will not be issued a registration for it. If they maintain the out of state registration and then get pulled over, they will be fined and their tags will be seized.

Than we should assign the emissions of petroleum exploration and extraction, transportation across land and sea, fuel refineries, leakage and evaporation to ICE powered vehicles. Deal? The advantage to electric powered vehicles are the economies of scale and the growing proportion of our power supply created by non-emitting technologies.

I get so tired of the apparently infinite variations on the argument contending that "If it's not perfect it's no good at all"

All "revolutions" start from something. Right now our entire economy is geared (and subsidized) to use non-renewable fossil fuels which are obviously damaging to the environment and climate. Yes the alternative will STILL HAVE COSTS. And maybe it will require some subsidization. But gosh ahmighty it gets tiring being told that those of us who try to do the right thing should be punished for it.

I went out of my way to put solar on my house and buy an all-electric car which I charge at home and I'm STILL having to hear how I'm a bad person for not driving an ICE vehicle or that my choices are so much worse (as if ICE vehicles don't cause problems at all).

GAH!

It is for those of us who charge our car on our solar PV system :)

Bah Humbug ... we've hydro coming out our collective asses here ... free charging at businesses all around the state ... plus the wind ...

The installation of these facilities isn't carbon-neutral, but the production of energy doesn't produce any CO2 ... just bouillabaisse ...

I didn't realize they installed at that hydro just for the electric cars! Or have you been fighting against hydro all along?

Government owns the means of production ... government owns the means of transmission ... and in quite a few communities, government owns the means for retail distribution ... and it's a crime to seek electric power from any other source in these communities ...

Absolute Socialism ... with prices to smelt aluminum with ... so EVs work here ... we're not burning coal to product the juice ... Washington State has good reason to believe this initiative will work for her citizens ...

I don't fight against renewables ... rather I fight for conservation ... we still need to ditch 90% of passenger vehicles ... and the A/C's ... and 90% of the TV networks on cable ...

There's better reasons to curtail our dependence on fossil fuels than just the stupid climate change ... which is a hoax ... no damn climate is changing anywhere in the world ... not until a big asteroid smacks us hard, right there in Iceland or Java ... flood basalt isn't a tragedy humans have experienced lately ...

I don't believe you are a bad person because you say you put solar on your house and you say you drive an EV. I think you are a bad person for totally different reasons.

I suppose the great state will subsidize people to be able to afford the prices of an EV in 2030?
By 2025, EV's will be about the same price as comparable ICE vehicles, but have better performance, last longer, and have greater range. They will not have to subsidize them, even today, most of Tesla's models are sold out months ahead of their production, even as the big plant in Austin is coming online. Same goes for most EV's other manufacturers are producing.
