Being Christmas is my fave holiday having a bit of a Normal Rockwell/Courrier and Ives thing going on I find the supposed war on Christmas upsetting. I don't think anyone has it in for Santa Claus, his reindeer, decorating pine trees, and presents. Think instead people have it in for Christianity and think Christmas has something to do with it. It doesn't. I might have originally, but we got rid of that tie-in a long time ago. Plus, Jesus' birthday wasn't in December anyway. The date was chosen arbitrarily and to bring then-pagans into Christianity when their celebration of guess the winter solstice was around late December. Can keep your trees, merrymaking, and gift-giving, but now it's about Jesus they said. Of course centuries later the new religion of capitalism took all the pagans who became Christians who became capitalists and made it about the gifts but let the pagans who became Christians who became capitalists keep the religious nod.

So............... what's your point?

Need help with the bigger words? I don't write these things for children. If it's beyond you might be better off keeping that a secret.

So you can't articulate your point? That means you don't have one.

Your OP just rambles incoherently. It never goes anywhere. I kinda like points to have some sort of, you know, destination.

there is a certain charm and giving feeling about the Christmas, the greed and competitiveness, the pushing and grabbing ruin the mood.
I wish gifts were made not bought and people would just dance to Christmas music in the malls.

The idea of Christmas before halloween is very off putting.

Christmas has not been fun in the last few decades, just crazy.

I wish people would stop sending this Urban Legend around. Tradition has it that Jesus was conceived and died on the same day. That date was decided by Passover, and March 25 was the date selected in the West (a week later in the East). If Jesus was thought to have been conceived on March 25, then nine months later...December 25.

Jesus was born during Sukkot. It is also the term for stable, again a greek mistranslation. It was the usual time for tax collection. a time of plenty.
Even the church said jesus was not born in December, that was just an arbitrary day they picked.

Believe what you need to believe. Whatever helps you sleep at night and keeps you from grabbing a blade and giving in to stress.

Freedom of worship in 21st Century America means seeing a lot of Christian symbols in December and April. Get used to it.

Get used to seeing a lot of Santa and the Reindeer too. Along with their pal Peter CottonTail.

Popular beliefs are as popular beliefs do in 21st Century America

The spiritual/ religious traditions of the winter solstice and Christmas are beautiful. But the modern cultural traditions involving the character and story of Santa Claus need to evolve and leave that chapter behind.

just where Uncle Nick fits in might be a clue as to why there is a "Holiday" in the first place ... such that it is.

Well -- not arbitrary. A date with a long established history. Happens to be the date when, three days after the winter solstice when, after the Sun "dies", it starts to rise again. And celebrated in connection with pre-existing gods (Attis, Buddha, Dionysis, Mithra, Orsiris) for millennia before. This was the Church piggybacking onto that legacy's coattails. Just as it did with Hallowe'en, Easter and Valentine's Day.

I really enjoy Christmas and will continue to do so. Easter, I'm not sure about that one, I do like the Cadbury egg commercial every year. Just as I always looked forward to the Andre Duck champagne commercial every year before Christmas, the Grinch cartoon, Rudolph puppet movie, Christmas music of all kinds, Sees candy everywhere you go, office Christmas parties.

There is no 'war on Christmas', that is a silly political fart that Faux Noise let's escape once a year because of their war on 'other'.

I am not arguing that Jesus was born on December 25; just how his birthday came to be celebrated on that date. The Feast of the Annunciation is still celebrated by the Church on March 25 of each year. At that time in society, birthdays weren't celebrated. That didn't become popular until later. By that time, the Feast of the Annunciation had been set, hence once birthdays became more important, December 25 became the obvious day.

While I know it is not altogether cool to mix the Zodiac and Christianity, I've always thought of Jesus as the most balanced personality who has ever lived. Sukkot generally matches up with the Sun sign of Libra!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Personally, I too, like other posters stated, don't care for the Christmas greed, gluttony, and glamour associated with this holiday. I also have gotten old enough and endured enough that I'm no longer interested in tolerating family and friends I absolutely don't care to be around 364 days a year and especially not the day of Christmas. The commercialism has ruined this holiday for me, the three month long preparation and preoccupation, watching the cycle of overspending followed by depression, overindulging in drink and bad food is in my estimation insanity. I'd much rather spend that time with my mate quietly enjoying each other's company away from the frenzy making our own merriment. Bah humbug!

I think the "War on Christmas" campaign worked. People and stores are once again saying "Merry Chistmas."

So, Christians won this round. That's unusual for us.

There wasn't a round, there wasn't a war.

But if you feel better cool.
