Waffle House refuses to serve armed uniformed U.S. soldier

Fuck you Waffle House, you're an embarrassment to America.

Waffle House Refused to Serve an Armed, Uniformed U.S. Soldier

The company has a strict no gun policy.

This past weekend, an armed member of the U.S. Navy was denied service at a Waffle House restaurant in Kentucky. According to a local NBC station, when officer Billy Welch — who was in uniform — sat down for a meal at the Nicholasville location of the 24-hour chain, he was told he'd need to disarm or leave the restaurant.

If I can't have my firearm, then I can't be here

Welch, who had his firearm holstered at his side when he walked in the door, was only asked to leave after he'd placed his order and the server noticed the gun. When she asked him to leave his gun outside, he refused. He later told the news station, "You know, if I can't have my firearm, then I can't be here. I walked inside to the other waitress. I said, 'thank you, but no thank you ma'am. I'm gonna have to leave.'"

A witness took to Facebook to express his discontent at the incident.

Why didn't he just put his weapon in the car?

I eat at Waffle House all the time and have never had to be armed

Since he was Navy, chances are he was wearing a sidearms because he was either Shore Patrol or Master of Arms or it was his rotation to stand Quarterdeck watch.
In any of these instances, not just no but Hell NO should he be separated from his weapon
Please show me the reg where SP is forbidden from removing their weapon at any time when off post

Waffle House has a right to set policy regarding firearms. The sailor was a dick for refusing to remove his sidearm and using his uniform as an excuse

Being a soldier does not mean he is immune to the stated requirements of the restaurant.

I have the right to know if some yahoo sitting next to me is packing.

Have the balls to be honest.

Uniformed or otherwise, if he wanted Waffles, the price was leaving his gun outside. I support open carry and second amendment rights, but I also support the right of a business establishment to refuse service.

That's a tough one.

Having said that, I have no trouble with people alongside me in a restaurant carrying weapons.

What if they look like this? You gonna enjoy your Mac and cheese then?

Didn't specifically say that there's a reg.
Just that there shouldn't be separated from a weapon that's he's responsible for

Let's be real here people, nobody would give two shits about this story if this guy was a plumber or a puppeteer. Being a soldier doesn't allow him to violate this particular restaurant's stupid no firearm policy.

If he wasn't violating any Navy regs by keeping his sidearm with him he must have been in some sort of law enforcement capacity and, as such, shouldn't be treated any differently than any of the local LEOs

He was refused not because he was a soldier- but because he was armed.

Hell though- if all of you want to boycott Waffle House for its gun policy- fine with me.

Thanks for your permission.

Have the balls to go in knowing customers are armed.
You won't, you'd be shaking so bad you wouldn't be able to swallow those waffles anyway.

Let's be real here people, nobody would give two shits about this story if this guy was a plumber or a puppeteer. Being a soldier doesn't allow him to violate this particular restaurant's stupid no firearm policy.

It doesn't "allow" him, it's on the restaurant to show some special appreciation of our men and women of the armed forces.

When I was in Newport, you checked your weapons out from the armory a half hour prior to patrol, and you turned it back in as soon as patrol was over.

And, having served on the Security Force in Newport, I can't think of any official reason for him to be armed off base.

But then again, we only used government issued weapons on patrol, and knew to not go off base or in private vehicles with them.

There is something seriously fishy with this story.
Agreed. Something fishy here. After watching the video I think that was his personal weapon. He is shown with the weapon in his civilian clothes and says, "I don't feel comfortable taking my firearm away from me. I always keep it with me." Not that he wasn't allowed to leave his service weapon outside, but he didn't "feel comfortable" doing so. He is also in the Army National Guard, not the Navy.

Restaurant Refuses Service To Soldier For Carrying Firearm

Again, people wouldn't care if this person was anyone else other than a member of the armed services. He wasn't denied service b/c he was a soldier, he was denied b/c he was carrying a firearm and not a police officer. I think this particular restaurant's policy is silly but the articles lame attempt to pull at my heart strings doesn't work on me.

Are you sure there's some kind of Fed law about military carrying their firearms off base, or is that just a state thing?

I've been in a heavy military area my entire life so seeing our solider's out n about with their guns to grab lunch or w/e is completely normal; both on and off base. Our state has almost zero laws about being armed in public though... Hell, I don't think there's even one on the books about carrying into a bar (though most bars /do/ have a policy that guns are left in the car or with the doorman/bartender.)

Some diners up here have a similar policy, but there's no way I could see them refusing service to a solider in uniform... Shit, our police would have a hissy if they couldn't have their donuts and coffee and chat with everyone; kind of a thing for the early owls/late shifters. Our only doughnut shop shut down when the owner retired, so now we all hang out at the 24 hour grocery store that has a café in it heh ( Well, me, not so much anymore, I've gotten lazy :/ )

If this really did happen, I don't think that the waitress was asking for much. It wasn't like she was asking him to hand over his car.

God bless you and everyone involved always!!!

Holly

P.S. To me, if you can't show any respect for the rules, don't expect any respect in return then.

Free waffle day?

Let's see if a few days makes a difference, they may stick to their guns, but I bet after a few days of bad publicity they'll begin to waffle.
