The child can stay if the parents give up custody like to a relative that is here legally. Under the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment, the child is a US citizen and cannot involuntarily be deported except with the parents, but they do not lose their citizenship.

That is the problem, should not matter if they have legal relatives, the parent was illegal thus the child entered this country illegal before it was born
the child should not have citizenship to lose, they should never have it in the first place

The way I read the 14th, any child born on US soil is automatically a US citizen, regardless of the status of the parents.

Historically, that is how US courts have interpreted the 14th.

I'm hearing things like the Chinese are bringing pregnant woman to the US, letting them abuse our medical system by having the baby without paying, and then taking the baby back to China to be raised as Communist, with the goal of these children returning to sway votes in our elections. There is no such thing as an anchor baby loophole. I believe as more people look at the nuts and bolts of the 14th Amendment they are seeing that it does not allow foreigner's kids born on US soil automatic citizenship.

The simple legal interpretation of the words make birth under US jurisdiction automatic citizens of the US.

The only question is over the meaning of jurisdiction, and that can be historically answered that at the time, except for the indians not taxed, and diplomats and their entourage, everybody else physically in the US was under their jurisdiction.
