Jesus Christ truly rocks!! 😎 If churches played this kind of music they'd be packed as this is a rock concert!!

:yes_text12:

This one has to be listened to the whole way through, about midway through the song it makes me want to start headbanging

You're a rocker? Lol I thought that you were going to call me out for blasphemy for liking this version of the song. I love the old hymn too but this is currently my favorite version. 😁 Although this version is currently in second place!! :D

I like a lot of different types of music, but even in my BC days, I was never into heavy metal and I wasn't particularly into bands like Led Zeppelin...or bands that try to portray themselves as edgy and dark with satanic symbolism, I was never into that. lol

But there are a few types of rock that I do like. But that's not why I posted on this thread. I guess we misunderstood each other, I thought the focus was Jesus, not rock music. I agree of course that not all Christian music is hymns... (does anyone actually think that?)

Indeed, Christian music can be more than hymns.

There is also legitimate criticism of modern Christian music industry. At what point does the music become less focused on Christ and more focused on the performers and entertainment? That's always something that should bear serious consideration.

One hopes a good Christian band can draw in unbelievers into the faith. I've been to a Newsboys concert and they're a good band. However, I was offput by some of nearby fans in attendance, particularly some girls behind me who were screaming their heads off like those old films of girls screaming for the Beatles. I don't believe they were filled with the Holy Spirit if you catch my drift.

Sometimes you have artists drift over into producing Christian music for a spell, think Kanye West or Avril Lavigne, and you hope they have a legitimate conversion and are doing music to glorify Christ, but sometimes they are just looking to make some money off of Christians.

Churches do have to be careful on their presentation. Is the music truly glorifying Christ, or are they mere entertainers, in it for themselves?

My former church (following the passing of my pastor) became more like a nightclub or concert in their worship, in style, lighting, and volume, and for my personal tastes didn't appeal to me. It's definitely tailored toward a younger crowd and I wish them well.

Anyhoo, I'll stop there. Rock on.

Very good points. Non-believers will probably scoff at this, but the enemy does infiltrate different Christian spheres, and there is some questionable 'christian' music that either has a misleading / unbiblical message, or is not coming from someone who is truly converted... but, as you put it, mere entertainers in it for themselves.

There's a lot more to be said about this, and it could actually make an interesting thread of its own. Remember Banky, from FR and DA? He was one of those who believed that all modern Christian music is not real Christian music... and boy, was he adamant about it. I disagree with him, but I do agree with your point that churches should be careful about their presentation.... it should always be glorifying to God. Haha, we kind of took RR's thread in a whole different direction.

It is about Jesus. It was just a question because I wasn't sure how you felt about Contemporary Christian music.

Good points and honesty I'm here for both the music and the message. 😁

You're fine and yes it does make for another good thread discussion. Why don't you start it since it was your idea? 😁 (Especially since I don't know how to start it. 🤔)

He could be very absolutist, that and biblical translations (KJV only of course, as if Jesus hath spoken only in 1611 English). Not that he didn't have legitimate concerns.

There are Bible translations I would never use for Bible study (The Message, The Passion et al.). I generally use the NKJV (I can follow along pretty well when somebody uses a KJV) and I like using the Blue Letter Bible App and their "Interlinear / Concordance" feature really is helpful in deciphering the true meaning of a word or phrase.
