Utah hasn't voted blue since Mushroom Cloud guy ran in '64.

I had to look this one up (didn't quite believe my ears) - over the weekend I was in my accountant's office. The chewin' the fat part of the meeting centered on the upcoming election - my accountant is a Mormon, grew up in Utah, went to the Naval Academy - Navy Pilot and Vietnam Vet then BYU for his post graduate work - and now-----and now, the only major party candidate he'll "consider" voting for is Bernie. Wow, indeed!

While Clinton was only slightly ahead of Trump — 38 percent to 36 percent — Sanders, a self-declared Democratic socialist, holds a substantial lead — 48 percent to 37 percent over the billionaire businessman and reality TV star among likely Utah voters.

"Wow. Wow. That's surprising," said Chris Karpowitz, co-director of Brigham Young University's Center for the Study of Elections and Democracy. "Any matchup in which Democrats are competitive in the state of Utah is shocking."

Also surprising is the number of Utahns who said they wouldn't vote if Trump were on the ballot. Sixteen percent said they'd skip the election if Trump and Clinton were their ballot choices, while 9 percent said they wouldn't vote if it was a Trump-Sanders matchup

36 is less than 38. Sanders leads him by 11. Maybe he should have been nicer to Romney :dunno:
Wow, 2%! At this point in 1980, Jimmy Carter led Ronald Reagan in the polls by 25 points.

Using the words of Chris Karpowitz, "Wow. Wow. That's surprising." But what's not surprising is, rightwing reading comprehension - somehow you missed the paragraph-----the paragraph that I even highlighted for you but fortunately for you, I'm able to c&p it for you here "While Clinton was only slightly ahead of Trump — 38 percent to 36 percent — Sanders, a self-declared Democratic socialist, holds a substantial lead — 48 percent to 37 percent over the billionaire businessman and reality TV star among likely Utah voters."

Guess what? Bernie ain't gonna be the nominee so it doesn't matter, does it?

You have to understand the unique demographic of Utah. When a man has 5 wives, free healthcare is a very appealing proposition.

Good to know your crystal balls are working. I'll believe you know what the hell you're talking about when you send me this weeks Powerball #'s. -pewsh-

There's as much chance of him winning the nomination as you winning the Powerball.

If Trump loses in Utah it should come as no surprise. There are many Mexican Mormons. And many Mormons in Mexico. Trump's anti illegal anti amnesty anti anchor baby stance doesn't play well in Utah.

Well that settles it. Trump supporters should abandon all hope and stay home....he can't win. It's on the internet, so you know it's true......

The Republicans are considering putting up an independent to fight Trump. They'd prefer 4 years of a Democrat to the destruction of their party from within.

I'm just looking at reality. And in Utah reality is based in the LDS leadership. If Trump pulls it off it would be a miracle. Bets are Cruz will win because of Romney.

But that begs the question.... Is Cruz still against amnesty and pro wall? Because if I'm not mistaken two of his biggest Mormon supporters Romney and Beck are pro amnesty but they are backing the Senator.

"Ultimately, Mormons defer to leadership, which is increasingly accepting of leftist causes– for fear of losing a generation of young adherents– whose continued worship is conditional upon the Church’s support for amnesty, opposition to climate change, and embrace of gay marriage."

Oh the party is destroyed. The establishment just hasn't realized that it's permanently over for the establishment RINO's.

I like to think of the inside the beltway elites as "political poltergeists" these days. They haven't seen the light.

What person in their right mind wouldn't vote against the completely unqualified egotistical pathological liar reality show host Trump.

re: Mormons - MFP

Trump was never expected to win Utah. If he gets any delegates at all, it will be a huge win for him.

If Cruz doesn't win all the delegates in Utah it will be a huge loss for him. He is expected to win 50%+

Regardless of what happens in Utah, Trump will win Arizona and all 58 delegates. So he is increasing his lead and well on his way to 1237 delegates.

I hope pro Trump Utah voters will still get out the vote and not take a defeatist attitude. At least give Cruz a run for his money. But it's starting to stick in my craw that he's getting endorsed by individuals who really believe in amnesty.

Curiouser and curiouser......

What does matter is Trump is polling poorly in a reliable red state, regardless the democratic nominee.

Hanging your hat on Utah shows your desperation.
