USPS wants to hike stamp prices for 2nd time in 6 months

The funny part is, if it wasn't for the junk mail delivered to us every day, the post office would already be out of business. The truth is, the USPS is nothing but pure socialism where we add billions and billions onto our debt to pay the employees of the USPS to deliver mail we don't want in the first place.
you people dont realize how much 1st class mail is still delivered to many companies daily....and the PO pays their employees not the tax payer...

Its an ok agency for mailing letters I guess. But as far as parcel delivery, I can't see it and neither can most shippers. When I was looking to send my Cologuard stool sample last year to Exact Sciences, very good service from Fedex. I didn't want my crap to get lost in the mail.
yea thats why UPS ans FedX have the PO deliver many of their parcels for them because they are so bad...

The post office is delivering less than half the money making 1st class mail that it did 20 years ago.
Reasons why are obvious, as people everywhere have switched to autopay and paperless billing.
This is truly an unsurmountable problem for the USPS.
Also down is marketing mail.
And now you have Amazon developing "Amazon Hubs" spread out across even small towns now, with private contractors delivering packages.

They really have no choice. State governments have long-long resisted USPS attempts to modernize and close small POs. Until they are allowed to do so, they will continue losing $$$$money.
state governments dont have much say in what PO's close....and they HAVE been shutting non profitable offices down....

A 33% jump during the Biden years. Way to go Joe. Raise the prices on the junk mail, maybe it will help cut down on the crap I get almost daily. This will effect the older generation on a fixed income the most
How far across America does a letter go posted first class at 68 cents

Is there a disconnect with the USPS? Every time after a rate hike, volumes always go down.

How much do you actually use the US mail?

I regularly mail out cards and letters to my friends and family. Usually a few times a week more when a holiday is coming
I'm actually quite surprised to hear that. I haven't mailed anything more than once or twice a year for a decade or more.

I suspect most folks are more like me than you.

You should try it. I’m not trying to be a dick on this point so please don’t take it that way. A quick card with a personalized note goes a long way and is more meaningful than a text or email. I’ve had it happen to me when I come home after a shit day and find a little note from a friend just seeing how I am an it changes my mood I’ve had friends call me telling me they really needed that card I sent them and it changes their mood. For me it’s a way to force myself to slow down in this face paced digital world and try and reconnect to people on a more personal interaction level. But I am also someone who prefers a printed copy of whatever they are reading. The smell, the physical touch aspect are more pleasing than digital lifeless copies
