US womens soccer star declines to join US womens national team over pandering to homosexuals

She doesn't have to be proud of a teammates gayness. She is refusing to wear a gay pride jersey. She would be forced to advertise that she is proud of homosexuality when she clearly is not. Even as bad and as corrupt as our courts are, I doubt if they would demand someone take such a personal way of advertising an approval they don't have.

I can't envision black people demanding that white players wear a jersey that says proud to be black when they clearly aren't.

Okay, so, the right think that football players should be FORCED to stand for the national anthem, but don't think soccer players should be forced to wear the team jersey..... Is that about right?

The shirt doesn't say the player is proud to be gay. The shirt looks like this

ussoccer_pride.0.jpg

It has a rainbow on it. Oh, wow.

That's the colors of the shirt.
the "team" should not be picking out one "minority" over others.

where's the cross? where's an ankh? where's the fist in the air? hell, since we're now in total support mode, where's the swasitka?

if you're going to force people to wear this shirt then you are forcing your viewpoints upon them - and i know based on experience - you would not allow that. you would go ape-shit-batty if you were forced to wear something you didn't believe in and stage some protest to run people over in the streets in rage.
The rainbow flag includes everybody. So those examples you gave are already welcome.

You have to be as thick as shit not to support "football is for everyone".

the rainbow colors are specific to the gay community and "rainbow" pride. trying to claim it as "gay flag colors" *AND* universal in inclusion doesn't work.

jesus on the cross died for all of us - *ALL OF US* - so we can just put a crucifix on there and it will include everyone, including gays, ok?

Go back and take "Symbolism 101" again. How else would a symbol representing ALL of us be represented in a flag or some other insignia?
Your specific religion has absolutely nothing to do with this. There are some adherents to some religious doctrines who choose to pretty much drop out of American society, like the Amish. If you want to pursue such a lifestyle, what's stopping you?
You miss the point in spectacular style. They want to show that the game is open and inclusive. Everybody is welcome.

Obviously some are uncomfortable with this but you will never please everybody. The football associations have a responsibility to promote the game to everybody in their countries. Gays are under- represented in football because historically they have not been made welcome. Probably by primitives like yourself and the other characters on this thread.

Its a good thing Morally and ethically it is a good thing.

To the contrary ... The game is open and inclusive.

It is your discomfort that requires special treatment ... Not the game of soccer ... Deal with it.
Your garbage about who is or isn't underrepresented has nothing to do with whether or not someone is good at playing soccer ... Deal with it.
If your delusional enlightenment is subject to your misguided nonsense ... Then you can keep your nefarious garbage.

Soccer does not need you to be gay nor straight to play the game ... And we don't need your stupid tag-along bullshit ...

.
We are "dealing with it." You're insistence that prejudice be swept under the rug is appalling. A person who plays on the U.S. Team represents us all as a nation. The UK is united behind Team UK. It is England. As an American, I would not want want my country represented in international competition by anyone who cannot proudly represent all of our people on the international stage.
Actually we are all behind Wales and we also support whoever England are playing. As good neighbours we always want England to lose . There will never be a Team UK. But your point is corrrect. The team represents the whole nation and everybody should get behind them.

Having a homophobe in the team could be a problem for gay team members. It doesnt build team spirit.

This is the actual Welsh team celebrating Englands humiliation against Iceland. It was a great night.

THANK YOU for your most informative comment. I just have been learning about football in the UK, courtesy of of a friend here who got me addicted to UK television and I went back and got Dream Team out of the YouTube bucket. In this series, Ryan Naysmith was always carted about to being a likely suspect to be selected to play for "England." It gave me the impression that players arose from all the separate territories of the UK and then formed one "England" team against the rest of the countries. In Dream Team, there were many references to Harchester going back to Cardiff. Across the pond, this is confusing. Later, I will figure out what the hell cricket is all about, as well as your "A-levels." Cheers!

Its complex and tied up with a lot of baggage. We dont really hate the English. We live and work together. But wanting England to succeed at anything is a bridge too far.

As an example the Anglo centric press always refer to Andy Murray as the top British tennis player. Until he gets beaten and then he becomes scottish. It pisses people off.

And, with no special logos, no one is excluded. With no special logos, everyone is included. Not wearing a special logo is not the same as excluding the group the special logo identifies, it is simply not wearing the special logo. Not wearing a "Coke" ad does not mean, "don't drink Coke".
What wearing the special logo is aimed at is excluding people who are upset by the special logo. Whatever else that may be, it is not 'inclusive' and it is not educational.

Congratulations on your Big Win

I didn't know that you're Welsh. Sorry. I always had a vision of you sitting in London, typing. I'm learning more each day. I didn't know that there such friction between England, Wales, Scotland, and No. Ireland. I just knew that the Scots were pretty independent. I read the BBC online, which has the news in geographic sections. It's interesting.

Now that I know that you are Welsh, can I please buy a vowel? Every time I see a sign from Wales, I am absolutely flummoxed. Long words with seemingly no vowels except "y". I always figured that the city of Bala Cynwyd in Pennsylvania was Welsh, and found that interesting.

I'm also trying to figure out Irish. All of my great-grandparents on my father's side left Ireland in the mid-1800s and landed in New York. I wish I could speak the language. The bi-lingual road signs left me wondering how anything could possibly be pronounced. How can one get "Shawn" out of "Sean"? I found a tutorial on YouTube about Irish rules of pronunciation and it was fascinating. Totally different from the sounds represented by letters in English. I might have call to speak it if the complete assholes now in charge of the U.S. Government continue as they have and I have to flee to Ireland.

Forgive me. I'm just sitting around watching the sun rise on Northern Virginia and listening to the birds, wondering what they've got to say, and running my mouth.

THANK YOU for sticking up for LGBTs. I'm not LGBT, and I'm not Jewish, either, but:

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

You seem to be a fairly nice person, so we will assume this question is not facetious, despite the glaringly clear answer. How about this message: "We're sorry if anyone felt excluded before, but we've learned our lesson and everyone is invited to join in. Racist and other prejudices have been overcome. Thanks, and enjoy the game!"

I dont think that cuts it for the girl who is the subject of this thread. What do you think ?

I turned on both the US Men’s team game versus Ireland and the New England Revolution game this weekend and was unsurprised to find rainbow colors on jerseys and other items before I shut the games off. Just as I did with the pink jerseys in MLB on Mother’s Day weekend.
So...do you not actually know what the pink jerseys were for, then?

I am enlightened. I always felt that random attacks on gays and lesbians were horrible acts and should be punished to the max. I have a better understanding now. Those attacks are desirable and necesssry.

Don't go off the deep end against gays or lesbians because some idiots get their feathers ruffled when you call out their ridiculous bullshit.

It's not a necessity to embrace the militant LGBT movement, nor their desires to co-op anything and everything.
They are not about bringing people together ...

You are one good guy!

lets not get carried away here with killing the rights of others.

this isn't like berkley where they get violent and beat the crap out of conservatives who dare to think they can speak on their campus, no. i'm sure you were back there championing the cause of right and wrong at that time too saying how wrong that is.

no one is beating up gay people.
no one is even saying "don't be gay, sparky, don't be gay" GO BE GAY. shove whatever you want where ever you want.

but don't tell me when i'm doing a team function that includes ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE, we have to show support for that 1 or we're all a bunch of assholes coming for your rights. it's this bullshit extreme nature that has things so jacked up. all this young lady has said is "no" to wearing GAY PRIDE uniforms when it's something she does not believe in.

show me where anyone is picking on gays in any of this - i'm sure you'll point to the shirt but people "not gay" have a right to not have to uphold ONLY GAY RIGHTS in every aspect of their lives or they are evil.

so when i see you protecting rights for all people and the rights themselves, not just 1 segment of it, then you have a point about coming for rights. but when people can only use the most extreme of examples in their conversations such as this, this is when we get to "normalizing the extremes" and we need to put the extremes back where they belong.

so - a heterosexual person NOT wanting to wear GAY PRIDE clothing is not stopping the rights of gay people anymore than not allowing a crucifix or other symbols of segments of people isn't keeping them down there.

have they?

most people i know don't care who's what. just stop telling them about it 24x7. i don't come into work talking about women/sex and my personal life, why do i need to hear about theirs or i'm keeping them down? it's when the average person feels under siege that we must accept them and show constant support for what would appear to now be a frail ego, or *they* are the assholes.

i don't force my way of life on you and demand you show support because of how i've been victimized in the past, don't expect me or others to do that either. when they don't, that does NOT mean they hate you, they just have their own issues and problems to deal with.

I turned on both the US Men’s team game versus Ireland and the New England Revolution game this weekend and was unsurprised to find rainbow colors on jerseys and other items before I shut the games off. Just as I did with the pink jerseys in MLB on Mother’s Day weekend.
So...do you not actually know what the pink jerseys were for, then?
i know what they're for. still tired of seeing them for a month during football season.
I'm sorry, but that was not addressed to you. Piss off.
