Well, that just shows Trump's trade wars were kind of stupid, since they hurt America more than they hurt China.

Your article missed the point of helping US farmers since China retaliated against them for Trump's tariffs:
Tariff money comes from importers.
They either take it from profits or add it to the price, either way its NOT paid by US taxpayers as you imply.
they've been doing that long BEFORE Mr Trump was POTUS--DUHIn a late October campaign appearance in Omaha, Neb., President Donald Trump said he believed farmers were better off getting government payments than relying solely on their farming receipts.
“In fact, some people say our farmers do better now than when they actually had a farm,” he said.
Many top farm states voted again for Trump in November, including Iowa, Nebraska, Texas and Kansas. Several, however, left Trump to vote for Democrat Joe Biden, including Wisconsin, Michigan and Georgia.

Well, now we know how red state farmers, and Trump really think about socialism.
IF they add the tariff to the cost of their goods the US consumer can avoid paying the tariff by buying US products.Tariff money comes from importers.

Are you retarded? Did someone steal your helmet.
OF COURSE they are adding the cost of tariffs to the consumer, you idiot.

No one missed that taxes were taken from some to give to others.
OMG, it was TARIFF money given to farmers, NOT TAXES
Trump tariffs: How much is US collecting in revenue?
Federal spending continues to outpace revenue collection.www.foxbusiness.com
The US collected $60b in tariffs from China and paid farmers $30b because China cut agri imports.
Stop with the whining already.
"Tariff money" is taxes but you know this. The US collected nothing from China.

If they buy the import, they pay the tariff, that is their choice. The tariff cost is not like a state sales tax.

Speaking of stupid, the US got $60b in tariffs last year. That's real money, who cares about VN or India?IF they add the tariff to the cost of their goods the US consumer can avoid paying the tariff by buying US products.
If they buy the import, they pay the tariff, that is their choice. The tariff cost is not like a state sales tax.
Actually, they can equally avoid paying the tariff if they buy a product made in Vietnam or India, without having to buy a US made product.
You are a special kind of stupid, aren't you?
My point is that the tariff can be avoided by buying US goods. Trump is trying to level the trade playing field to help US manufacturers and farmers. China's subsidized goods, currency manipulation, and dumping goods hurts US workers.Tariff money comes from importers.Your article missed the point of helping US farmers since China retaliated against them for Trump's tariffs:

When added to the price who is paying that? Not China. We are.

The point of this thread is: do farmers get paid with taxpayer dollars, or tariff money. I proved that the US got $60b in tariffs and paid the farmers $30b. QED.

Very true. Its hard to make a decent living on the family farm, especially the smaller farms. They get hit with bad weather, low prices, and other costs. I'm not surprised that we're losing 500 family farms a year. However, their farm isn't scrapped, its sold and bought by a more successful farmer. How did Trump's tariffs hurt the US??Your article missed the point of helping US farmers since China retaliated against them for Trump's tariffs:

Bottom line: Trump's tariffs have zero to do with the continual loss of small family farms.
Try again.Capitalism.

Um, yeah, it's kind of stupid to get 60B in tariffs and then spend it subsiding farmers who could have sold products for more income we could have used.
That's kind of dumb, actually.
Absolutely nothing new, farmers have been paid a very long time "not to grow crops", subsidies, loans. Try 1929
