The loss of six soldiers is a sad reality of military service. All service members understand that their profession carries real danger, and in any conflict, people can be killed. That is an unavoidable truth, and no one in uniform is unaware of it.

The broader situation with Iran is complex, serious, and unpredictable. In my personal opinion, preventing the spread of nuclear weapons is extremely important, and it is essential that Iran—at least under its current regime—never attains such weapons. Regardless of political affiliation, if the mullahs were to obtain nuclear weapons, the world would become increasingly dangerous for you, your children, and your grandchildren. The concern is that the Iranian leadership is hostile, religiously extreme, and unpredictable. That is an intolerable and unacceptable situation, and we simply cannot allow it to happen.
