Seems like D.C. is getting somewhat safer in many regards.

The number of homicides in Washington, D.C., has dropped steeply after President Donald Trump sent the National Guard to clean up the city in August 2025.

There have been 20 homicides in 2026 so far in the nation’s capital, which is a 52 percent drop compared to 42 homicides recorded in the same time period of 2025, according to D.C. police statistics.

That's great.

I won't address the bigger question.

I just thought it worth bringing this up as there was a lot of contention about this back when it started.

And it only takes 2,400 Active Duty Guard troops, station there to this day, plus 3,200 sworn Metropolitan police, 300Plus United States Park Police, 75plus US Marshals, as well as an unknown number Customs and border patrol, and FBI.
Not counting CPI and FBI, as no hard numbers were available, that is at least 6,000 plus law enforcement for a city of 693,000. That is at least one officer for every 115 people.
That is a hell of a ratio.

$1.25 million a day seems a bit expensive though...

At those numbers it not crime reduction, it's crime suppression.

The difference being that as soon as no-one is watching the crime is likely to go right back up.

DC is full of criminals, if they are not in congress they are low income housing
still don't get why that exist at all, you would think DC would be al rich, right?
Mostly rich means mostly white-=less crime

That is a pretty big if. The congress critters usually get away with it. No. I am not a cynic, just a realist.

I figured they had their share of fairly well off (the Congress critters and high level government employees), as well as business owner supplying people needs of the well off and the masses like any other metro area approaching 700,000 plus visitors. But, I knew they had significant crime and lower income people (workers and non-workers, as well as criminals).

I looked at Metro Nashville, about 2 million population, with less than 1,700 sworn Metro PD Officers. Nashville is not a poor city, though there are a lot of people that are lower income, and has its share of crime. Seeing Nashville or (God help me) Memphis, it is easy to see how 6,000 law enforcement personnel, could influence a significant drop in the crime rate in a city like Washington, with only 693,000 residents plus visitors.

I live in Jackson, TN a West Tenn. small city of about 70,000. We are 86 miles from Memphis (possibly the current crime capital of the United States). Jackson has about 70 sworn officers. Our crime rate (while not like Memphis) is significant, but our ratio of officers to people is around 1:1000, not the current 1:115 of Washington, DC. Still, I would not want to live in a federal police city, though if we did have that ratio of officers to people, I am certain, I would not bother with the concealed carry Walther PPQ, packed and racked 15+1, with two spare mags,

well it is sad that a small area with a rather high population per mile are such criminals
DC votes like 95% democrat.......guess that is all the proof needed

shame people can't just work, enjoy life instead of trying for that extra easy buck with robbing and selling drugs

Not wrong, take your eye off the ball and yes it will

that is why every city still has police, deterrent......hopefully

they can't be everywhere, thus crime still happens

The rounds ups mean more locked up, so the crime rates stay down longer as a result of these crackdowns. The city near me used to use 'shotgun squads' back in the 1950's and 1960's, when armed store robberies were a big fad with Thug Landians. They would hide in the stores and wait for a robbers to show up, then open up on them if they made the slightest wring move. thinned out the herd for a long time afterwards, and taking a job as a convenience store clerk ceased being a death sentence for several months, until the next herd of moron hood rats came along, then rinse and repeat. 'Flash mobs' type criminality isn't a new thing, and there are proven methods to stop that sort of hobby..

Even worse, most of their law enforcement, the active military National Guard, the Federal law enforcement of every stripe, uniform, unit and agency is paid for by me and you and Americans from Maine to Washington state, Texas to Alaska, plus to Hawaii. Don't you just hate when your Tax money is spent to fix other people bad decisions, while your local crime problems are paid for mostly my your local property taxes, business taxes and fees?

yep, sucks, sad DC is like the worst area in the USA per many factors
One might think our capital would be clean and safe........not even close

sure there are many reasons it's a disaster which is likely a long list of failures under any president

It seems like they're still capping each other pretty regularly if you watch local news. Mayor Muriel has the sweet kids on curfew right now, which of course is opposed by the progressives. She's leaving there and I believe she has done a fairly good job of keeping things straight and it could go really ugly after this. Congress tries to keep the natives quiet, not from any prurient interests but they have to be there and don't want the attention to fall on them. They can very well end up with a new Marion Barry. who would like the asshat they have in Chicago now. When Cathy Lanier left as Chief of Pollice things were pretty stable, but she left to be head of security of the NFL. and it went downhill.

Congressional report: National Guard in DC has cost taxpayers $330 million

The National Guard has made ZERO Arrests and cost $330 million so far.

Are you saying they don't get paid or cost anything unless Trump calls them out? lol okay, keep thinking that, it's par for your ilk.

The National Guard cannot stop the crime wave ushered into Chicago by bad political leadership.
