Universe has 2 trillion galaxies, astronomers say
Hubble telescope images from deep space were collected over 20 years to solve the puzzle of how many galaxies the cosmos harbors

There are a dizzying 2 trillion galaxies in the universe, up to 20 times more than previously thought, astronomers reported on Thursday. The surprising finding, based on 3D modeling of images collected over 20 years by the Hubble Space Telescope, was published in the Astronomical Journal.

Scientists have puzzled over how many galaxies the cosmos harbors at least since US astronomer Edwin Hubble showed in 1924 that Andromeda, a neighboring galaxy, was not part of our own Milky Way. But even in the era of modern astronomy, getting an accurate tally has proven difficult.

To begin with, there is only part of the cosmos where light given off by distant objects has had time to reach Earth. The rest is effectively beyond our reach. And even within this “observable universe”, current technology only allows us to glimpse 10% of what is out there, according to the new findings.

Imagine how many planets?? Hard to believe there' aint life on none of them.

And I think it safe to say at this point that even the 2 trillion number is not the last of it. There will likely be many more than that.

And I agree, there has to be life on many and intelligent life SOMEWHERE. But, it could be so far away or have gotten the ability to hear and send a signal 10,000 years ago or 10,000 years from now.

I'm also wondering if their calculation on the amount of dark matter will change now or if the percentage will remain the same. Very interesting stuff for sure.

Even within our galaxy, we have several billion stars, and perhaps 100 billion planets.
These are numbers we cannot compute, so vast are they.
It is almost inconceivable that life has not arisen many, many times in our Milky Way.
The recent interplanetry exploration has uncovered several candidates right here in our solar system.
Mars, Enceladus, Ganymede, Europa and Ceres have all been discovered to contain water. Certainly in extreme conditions, but, as we know from Earth, life can thrive in the most unlikely locations.

How do they know that?
I mean if Universe is endless how could they be so accurate? :eusa_think:

The universe isn't endless. It's estimated to be about 150 billion light years across. It started expanding at the point of the Big Bang and space itself is not bound by the speed of light so it has been expanding faster than the speed of light. Apparently.

So this means that it is 2 trillion that you can see, and the other galaxies are too far for light reaching from them to earth since the Big Bang.

Not hard at all. You are assuming that life is the result of evolution. There is plenty of real science that shows a naturalistic origin is probably impossible. Even the simplest life has thousands of components that must be in place at the same time for life to exist. There is no way that this could happen by chance. In other words, life had a Creator. No other explanation makes sense.

And if that didn't blow your mind... look into dark matter galaxies. Boom!!! Mind blown.

There was a thread here a while ago, which argued a bio centric universe, after a theory of prof. Lanza and co. I think it is possible that life comes from where everything was before the Big Bang.

Life is a construction of particular atoms, many of which can only be created inside stars and some of which can only be created when a star explodes. Life is a result of the creation and death of stars and the elements they produce. It all happened in this universe.

The question you should be asking is how and why it happened. No matter what anyone says, there had to be a primal cause for everything. What was that cause? The universe cannot create itself. Therefore, it had a Creator. No other explanation makes sense. One thing you probably aren't aware of is that the math breaks down shortly after the big bang. Scientists can only take it back so far. Less than a second after the big bang, in fact. Way less. It's like the laws of mathematics don't exist before that point in time. I believe that mathematics was actually created as part of the initial event that caused the big bang. The simple fact is that scientists are completely clueless about how and why the universe exists. So my belief in a Creator is just as valid as any of their theories. In fact, it makes a lot more sense. Think about it. A universe from nothing for no reason at all, or a Creator, who exists outside of time and space. Which makes more sense?

No, mathmatics does allow for a universe from nothing. There in fact is no evidence of a 'creator'; some human-like avatar with 'god-like' powers. That is a creation of humans in the last 10,000 years or so to help explain and attempt control of a world that was constantly killing them.

Bull shit. Or you would have provided a credible source. My guess is that it's merely a theoretical mathematical construct. That doesn't prove anything. BTW, even if it was true, where did the laws of mathematics come from? How about the universal physical constants? Why do they exist? They are laws that tell the universe how to behave. They are immaterial, yet they affect the material. How do you explain all of that without a Creator?

Authority rests with the preeminent physicists in the world. Argue with them.
You mean those atheists physicists, who get grants from the government? Yeah, right. Keep drinking the cool-aid. Also, the question of origins cannot be answered by science. There is nothing to test, or experiment on, since it happened in the past. The fossil record is a joke. Even many scientists admit that. Nope. Science can't answer that one.

Yes, nothing hits it better on the head that John 1:1.
