Universal health care bill fails to pass in California

A bill that would have created the nation's only universal health care system has failed to pass the California Legislature

Universal health care bill fails to pass in California

In a way I wanted to see it pass just to watch it implode. Just as well I guess as I bet when it went tits-up we would be bailing CA out.

Democrats are LYING when they say they believe "healthcare is a human right".

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A bill that would have created the nation’s only government-funded universal health care system died in the California Assembly on Monday as Democrats could not gather enough support to bring it for a vote ahead of a legislative deadline.

The bill had to pass by midnight on Monday to have a chance at becoming law this year. Democrats needed 41 votes for that to happen, a threshold that did not seem impossible given that they control 56 of the 80 seats in the state Assembly and universal health care has long been a priority for the party.

But intense lobbying from business groups put pressure on more moderate Democrats, who face tough reelection campaigns this year in newly-redrawn districts. Plus, Democrats were missing four lawmakers from their caucus — including three of their more liberal members — who had resigned recently to take other jobs.

Can't be done on a single or even multi-state basis.

It has to be federal, or it won't work.

And California's criminal Democrats knew that, knew it would fail, and wasted time and money on it anyway.

How in the hell were the yokels planning on paying for that monstrosity?

You make it a 1-2 year residency requirement, but they could never do that because they wanted to cover illegals who don't add to the system as well.
Still won't work.

It would wreck California, and the Democrats knew it would never pass.

There was no real plan; they knew it would never pass.

They've done this before; it's a game they play.

Bummer.

This would have give a nice microcosm show its efficacy. It is not as though they are going to stop demanding this on the national stage.

This bill would have given illegal aliens 100% free healthcare...even if the immigrant could afford his or her own healthcare....every illegal alien in America and people from all over the world would have come to CA and would have dragged their sick family members with them...it would have put hospitals out of business....dems are dangerously short sighted....

If only we could get rid if existing programs that are a waste of taxpayer dollars like Medicare and Social Security.

Social Security costs tax payers NOTHING, and actually greatly reduces taxes by allowing the Social Security surplus to finance most of the national debt.
Anyone who think Social Security costs taxpayer dollars has not done their homework.
Social Security is entirely self funding, where one just gets back the money they put in earlier, with about 3% interest.

Medicare cost vastly less than private insurance, and also is a program that you pay into and is mostly self funding.
Getting rid of Medicare would cost the country billions.
It is private health insurance that is bankrupting the country.
Anything is better.
