We are still paying to clean up Love Canal, the taxpayers that is, the fines imposed on the company that used the place as a toxic dump did not cover the costs to taxpayers and the people who got poisoned. Environmental regs did not come out of nowhere, capitalists will dump waste in your front yard if it saves a buck and they can get away with it.

Love Canal is not an isolated case, the toxic waste "superfund" is an ongoing project that cleans up toxic dumps when the responsible party cannot be found. The dumpers made their cash and are long gone, we hold the bag now.
