Iran never abandoned it nuclear WMD ambitions. The JCPOA did not require Iran to immediately abandon its WMD weapons program, just slow it down gradually until it was finally ended. There is no evidence that would have ever happened. Iran signed a deal that in reality would never force Iran to abandon its WMD ambitions, but which would motivate leftists in other countries to lift crippling sanctions against Iran. Iranian leaders were not stupid to try that trick.
