It appears that Ukraine has discovered an interesting fact about Russia's membership in the UN....

At Wednesday night’s historic meeting of the United Nations Security Council, as the gathered ambassadors finished giving prepared speeches calling for de-escalation, Vasily Nebenzya, Russian ambassador to the U.N., confirmed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s announcement that the country had begun a “special military operation” in Ukraine. In response, Ukraine’s ambassador openly questioned Russia’s status as one of the most powerful members of the Security Council.

Sergiy Kyslytsy, who’d prepared a statement arguing for diplomacy, ditched it to castigate the Russians for their unprovoked aggression — but only after he’d read aloud the section of the U.N. Charter on admitting new members and accused Russia of having used a "sneaky" loophole to gain the power to veto Security Council action.

It's a bold claim — but one that isn’t as farfetched as it may seem. The Soviet Union died in December 1991, but there are several possible dates we might place on the U.S.S.R.’s metaphorical death certificate. Whichever one is deemed correct could alter the way international politics has functioned since the end of the Cold War.

Fast-forward to 1991. The Soviet Union, having barely avoided a coup that August, was straining and on the verge of collapse. By December, the three Baltic countries under Soviet rule — Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia — had already declared their independence, and Ukrainians had voted to do the same. On Dec. 8, the leaders of Belarus, Ukraine and Russia signed the Belovezha Accords, which declared that “the U.S.S.R. as a subject of international law and a geopolitical reality no longer exists." The Commonwealth of Independent States would replace it, formed of states existing on equal footing.

As this was happening, there was mass speculation about what to do with the Soviet seat at the U.N. Nobody was sure just who the ambassador sitting behind the U.S.S.R.’s placard represented. The CIS isn’t a “state” and so couldn’t be the Security Council’s newest member. Russian President Boris Yeltsin told U.S. Secretary of State James Baker that Russia wanted to take over the seat at a meeting on Dec. 15 — which surprised Baker, since Russia hadn’t declared independence, wanted recognition as a new state but also wanted to take over much of the Soviet machinery.

Eight other former Soviet Republics joined the CIS on Dec. 17 by signing the Alma-Alta Protocols. Among those documents was a decision that the Commonwealth would “support Russia's continuance of the membership of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics in the United Nations, including permanent membership of the Security Council, and other international organizations.” All the others — except for founding members Ukraine and Belarus — would follow the normal admissions process.

Neither the Security Council nor General Assembly ever voted to approve Russia’s membership.

Ukraine now argues that with the Soviet Union completely dissolved, Russia should have had to reapply for admission to the U.N. like the rest of the former Soviet republics. “For over 30 years, people have been sitting in the U.N. Security Council with a sign that reads ‘Russian Federation’ and pretending to be a legitimate member,” Kyslytsy, the Ukrainian ambassador, told The Kyiv Post this month. “Everyone around thinks this is normal.”

He has a point: The successor states of the former Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia had to reapply to join the U.N. individually. Neither the Security Council nor General Assembly ever voted to approve Russia’s membership. Yeltsin himself referred to the seat as “vacant” before Russia moved in.

Bush tried to use this logic to get around various treaties that had been signed with the USSR. It didn't work then, it won't work now.
Kick Russia out of the UN and the global banking system. Funny how the goofy biden trolls keep supporting not punishing russia.

Biden has punished Russia plenty. Russia - or more specifically Putin, doesn't care. Putin needs this distraction to deflect from how badly he's handled the Russian economy and Covid.

It's going to backfire on him, of course.

Biden is giving Putin enough rope to hang himself.

Translation: Putin is doing as he pleases while Poopy Joe is wandering around looking for someone to change his diaper!!!!

I think what you should do, buddy, is organize a volunteer division to go over to the Ukraine and fight Putin.

Because you seem awfully keen to get us into a war we have no stake in.
That would be true, JoeB131, if Joe Biden had not been caught on a viral video that was going around a couple of years ago, bragging on how he extorted a billion dollars of money the Congress alotted to the Ukraine for buying munitions to protect them from imminent Russian invasion because the Ruskies have been saber rattling for some time about sticking it to the Ukraine for who knows what reason? Holding a grudge for when Stalin murdered 20-60 million Ukrainians in the last months of WWII and beyond? Well, how small-minded of them. /sardonic attitude admitted. When $325,000,000 was allotted to the Ukrainians by him last week, I hope he took it out of his own pocket because he's still short about $675,000,000. of the billion dollars he pocketed as Vice President of the United States. He's public enemy #1 until he pays out of his own pocket that billion dollars he extorted because certain Congresscritters could make sure they got enough money back to pay for the press to lie their asses off to get Demonrats reelected to offices they had no experience nor leaning toward equality for all. /venting almost complete. :eusa_hand:

Actually, he was caught on tape saying that he forced Ukraine to clean up their act before they got money. This is a good thing. I would hate to think how much of themoney we've given them didn't go to defense.

Um, are you fucking retarded? While 5 million Ukainians may have starved after World War I, these ridiculous numbers of "Stalin killed 100 gillion people" is just silly. The population of the USSR actually INCREASED under Stalin's regime.

Really? Because we have BIden's tax records for the last 40 years, and frankly, they don't show that kind of money. Now Trump's tax returns, we have yet to see.

But you never run out of crazy.

Poor Joe and his TDS. He thinks I listen to a radio^^^ I don't think I have a radio. If I do, I haven't seen it since maybe the year 2009 when we moved and may have listened to the car radio. Can't you just go back to your old lie set of critique for me listening to selected television newscasts? It could be so less stupid than what you wrote above that isn't the truth if you would stop stalking me for things I did not do. Oh, wait. Anyone who harrasses thoughtful people who have ever felt disgusted at the drama queens Hillary, Nancy, Maxine, and Alexandria get rewards from George Soros' Hate Trump deep state committee which includes not only communists, but some RINOs who can't let go of Trump's popularity with persons of a deep faith in the Lord God and his son Jesus Christ. Poor blind, deaf and heartless man. See ya in the funny papers. Here's a little something for your unpleasant mouth for its frequent use of the f-word:

Well, no one would ever accuse you of having an original thought.

The problem is you aren't "thoughtful people" and you guys do pretty much the opposite of what Jesus said to do.

Actually, the nuns tried that Grammar school.

I still use naughty words and have a contempt for religion.
You're cutting off to spite your face, doll. Good religions bring people who make the wrong choices to the kinder, gentler choices that bring them closer to themselves and others, in other words what a kind, gentle giver of this world and its treasures to people who choose goodness and kindness for themselves and others, with no regard for race, clan, state, gender, fiscal might, beauty, age, intelligence quotient, or anything else one can lord over another. God is just love, and at its best, religion of true believers have improved understanding of the good book, which teaches people what to know about how God has an open door to those who call upon him for help, reassurance, healing, and restoration of family. Curses or war against one's adversaries is not always the best door to open. The kingdom of God is always open for prodigals to return to, enter, and enjoy brotherly love with one's fellows. The nuns were trying out a way to get through to you that cursing, getting high, and inaccountability cut you off from the kingdom. And they were trying desperately to save you the loss of eternity in the bosom of Abraham, who obeyed God beyond all else. Anger about tough love administered in childhood should be remanded to oblivion in life, and learning to not count on verbal abuse to get at what you want--someone else's shame or dismissal of what they have to say which may not be in the comfort zone you have given yourself as a free adult in the land of the free. It's up to you to choose politeness or rudeness. It's up to you to choose who you friend and who you don't. Hopefully, you will bless your parents if they are still living (or not) even when you stomped out of their home one day to establish yourself as your sole boss, or to marry, or to thump your nose at civility or not. The trouble with cursing is that it seldom accomplishes one's intended long-range plan. Cursing has its equivalences--stealing, hurting someone physically, unending rage, avoidance of civility, squandering of one's own strengths, and every crime in the commandments and the criminal laws established, or mere falling asleep on the job. The founders decided to give freedom for all, which resulted in good or bad self-discipline. I would never come close to advising people how to live their life, but I would always encourage them to go for a walk with the good book, because by the time a person hits the age of reason, having the wisdom of the good book is to be preferred over shooting in the dark when hunting. I'm tired, and need a nap for my old bones to rest a bit. I watched the Ukraine's unwanted fireworks all night long, took a brief midnight nap, and woke up to check out the effect last night's vigil had on countries bordering on the Ukraine, Northern Europe, and our allies in Europe, and I'm tired again. Do try and have a better day than you've had so far, Mr. JoeB. We're all a little overwrought with the threats Mr. Putin of Russia spewed in the early hours threatening un-wonderful nuclear outcomes for all his enemies. And the entire continent of Europe is carrying negative Putin marching signs on sticks. I've no hard feelings. If you do pray ever, ask God to work peace in the hearts of mankind. We could all use some of that, and it wouldn't hurt your political ends.

Okay, I'm not going to mock your whole crazy rant, so just some of the highlights.

Well, when you find one of these "Good" religions, let me know. because most of them have given us inquisitions, crusades, holy wars, intolerance and superstition.

There is no God. Religion is our fear of death.

Don't you mean that Biden is giving himself enough rope to hang himself not putin. Obviously Biden didn't plan on helping Ukraine and was hoping that Ukraine would just roll over so PUtin could quickly take over and silence any dissent. But it didn't work out that way---the Ukrainians are fighting back prolonging the battle giving the rest of Europe's pussy countries a chance to realize that they are NEXT. Send troops to help Ukraine now, or fight on your own lands next. They can't wait behind the US and our corrupt inept paid off puppet Biden.

Biden is Chinas puppet...they need a quick Russian take over of Ukraine so they would have the green light for their shopping list of countries. Seems people everywhere are starting to get pissed off at the globalist communists.

Normally I would be full of contempt and vitriol towards JoeB131 and his behavior...
This morning I feel sorry for ole joe... Thoughts and prayers for ole joe as he is on the wrong side of history once again...

Yes, God made the earth you walk on. He granted you life from birth to death, both times of which he already knows. You caused the nuns who were your guardian angels so much angst with your mouth they had to resort to some kind of reminder to you that you had the responsibility of speaking with a little more respect to other people, but instead of respecting their judgment to help you, you took a bat and treated their wisdom with a home run to hades. It was your choice. My church sheltered me from religious zealots whose message was that basically, all other religions except those in their living room were going to hell. Before all was said and done I got accused of a very bad thing that caused me to realize that not everyone who says they are "saved" were willing to create a false narrative that would ruin anyone who asked them an innocent question. After having listened to their tripe for 6 months, I needed protection from their lies about me, and the church of my grandparents whose ancestors arrived on the Mayflower at Plymouth Rock, welcomed me back into their flock with love and joy. Sometimes it takes something bad to learn about what was good about being raised in your family's church who teaches the salvation of Jesus Christ, who taught his followers to carry his teachings based upon scrolls he quoted from his parents' synagogue to others to learn the details of adult responsibility to accept God's gifts as things to be returned to the good of others to bless and sustain them so they would always believe in the Lord who loves each and every one of us who put our trust in him. So our doxology is simple and goes like this "We give Thee but thine own, whatever the gift may be. All that we have is Thine alone, a Trust O Lord from Thee." When you know who God is and that He loves you very much, you are free. And that's what I think, even though you consider my words a "crazy rant." I am quite certain nothing I would say would earn me nothing but grief. Just like the grief you caused your sisters of the poor when you used bad language in their punishment that intended to convince you your words were unworthy of the person you were meant to be. You haven't accepted the discipline of your family's faith, and the years since that time haven't freed you from your disdain for the good people the sisters of the poor are. I'm not a Catholic, but I deeply respect their faith and their trials to make life better for those whose lives they touch.
