They would use the Front line Divisions they have in reserve and enter the Baltics and Poland.

There was a peace deal on the table 3 weeks into the war where Ukraine got to keep all its territory. It just had to stay out of NATO. In fact Russia sent a draft treaty to the head of NATO prior to the invasion that if signed would have avoided this entire debacle for the price of Ukraine not entering NATO. Essentially, we've killed 100's of thousands of people and destroyed a nation for " you cant tell me what to do" bull shit.

Correct - Russia is currently militarily in no position to keep on engaging with Ukraine, nor to keep recently gained territories.
They desperately need a break - and Trump made sure they got it. Off course Putin will still engage into some haggling so as to sell it off, as "his" victory.

Well, EVERYONE even Trump and his cronies - are fully aware what Putin is about.
However Business prospects with Russia are far more attractive to Trump - then with an Ukraine that basically got no $$ and "available" minerals. So he knows that to keep the show running he needs to be seen haggling with Putin and vice versa.

Aside from that - Ukraine aka Zelenski isn't interested in a "piece"-deal either - he wants those occupied territories back. And till then he need weapons and loads of $$ - which in turn Trump isn't willing to offer - since it jeopardizes his business plan in Russia.

So yeah - one really needs to pity Trump, isn't it?
