UK fires up coal power plant

Warm, still, autumn weather has meant wind farms have not generated as much power as normal, while soaring prices have made it too costly to rely on gas.
As a result, National Grid ESO - which is responsible for balancing the UK's electricity supply - confirmed coal was providing 3% of national power.
It said it asked EDF to fire up West Burton A, which had been on standby.

Hang on, if the UK fires up coal power plant as gas prices soar, what's happened to renewables? I thought those were the saviour, not coal.

Can any alarmist explain how renewables failed us?

PUFF PUFF PUFF!

Ah, so the Brits go back to their depressing ash covered past. ;)

The opening of Eleanor Rigby in Yellow Submarine with the smoke stacks always summed up GB for me.

In fact that part was removed from the video because it was thought it made the Brits look bad.

A few countries have had too because the promises of renewables never materialised.

That Damn wind is not following the liberal mandates to blow harder...

And such is the life of wind and solar. IN a cooling world, winds are reduced, downwelling solar radiation is also reduced. This means their ability to produce energy is severely reduced.

Germany, the Uk, Australia, most states in Africa... wind and solar have failed.
It's not that you don't know what you're talking about. It's that you choose to lie to support the position you've chosen for political reasons.

For decades Germany has been the global pioneer in applying renewable energy and environmental technologies. In 2019, 46% of the country's electricity mix came from wind, solar, biomass and hydroelectric sources. That's up 5.6 percentage points over 2018.

2020 marked the first year in the UK's history that electricity came predominantly from renewable energy, with 43% of our power coming from a mix of wind, solar, bioenergy and hydroelectric sources. The UK is on the cusp of producing its trillionth kilowatt hour (kWh) of renewable energy since 1970.

In 2020, 24% of Australia's total electricity generation was from renewable energy sources, including solar (9%), wind (9%) and hydro (6%). The share of renewables in total electricity generation in 2020 was the highest since levels recorded in the mid-1960s.

In 2020, 9 percent of all energy generated in Africa came from renewable sources, with a strong reliance (6.8 percent) on hydropower. The report by PricewaterhouseCoopers does however indicate that progress is being made in this area. From 2019 to 2020 alone, solar and wind capacity increased by 13 percent and 11 percent, respectively, while hydropower soared 25 percent. "Total installed renewable energy capacity in Africa has grown by over 24 GW since 2013". Looking further forward, forecasts to 2050 predict an extra 27.3 exajoules (EJ) compared to the current 1.8 EJ.

Germany is abandoning Wind and solar. They have ceased all Contruction of new projects. Everything being done now is private.

Believe what you want Crick.. No amount of evidence will dissuade you.

Germany’s carbon emissions have been flat since 2009, despite an investment of $580 billion by 2025 in a renewables-heavy electrical grid, a 50 percent rise in electricity cost.

Meanwhile, France produces one-tenth the carbon emissions per unit of electricity as Germany and pays little more than half for its electricity. How? Through nuclear power.

Then, under pressure from Germany, France spent $33 billion on renewables, over the last decade. What was the result? A rise in the carbon intensity of its electricity supply, and higher electricity prices, too.

Now that we know that renewables can’t save the planet, are we really going to stand by and let them destroy it?

And now Germany pays triple what we do for electricity.
Women and minorities hardest hit!!!!

Was it really a surprise that the UK fired up a coal power plant? Really?

Michael Shellenberger championed renewables, hence why the US pumped billions into renewables, then Shellenberger realised he was wrong, he now champions nuclear.

Hmmm, how about you grow up.

Try dealing with these topics like you made it through elementary school.

Green technology isn't going to be the perfected god of energy right out of the box. Your fossil fuels certainly didn't start off that way.

All of this takes time, there will be hiccups (just like in the development of fossil fuels...if only you knew more about history of this topic).

OH BUT WAIT! Remember: one of the chief energy exporters on the planet just decided to flip everyone on earth the bird by starting a war. This is causing upheaval in the energy markets (you should really pay attention). There's another stressor!

So, in short: you're an idiot. The real world is much more complex than simps like you could ever grasp.

Time of the month?

Did you read any of the links or did the tampon just fall out of your anus?

Please explain why countries are having to fire up coal stations when the saviour of the planet is supposed to be renewables? Psst, you will have to educate yourself and read the links in this thread, clown.

:desk:.....ooooooh........ooooh.....pick me.....pick me!!!!

I am not a climate cult alarmist......I believe the climate changes all on its own, and I currently sit where mile high glaciers used to exist...and melted long before humans arrived.....

But.....the reason why renewables have failed?

They don't work.

Thank you......
