Even with the present lithium ion batteries, it is less costly to use battery storage for peaker hours than gas peaker plants. With the new sodium batteries, it will be far cheaper. And there is no spin up time for batteries, which put power online in less than a second, as opposed to minutes for the gas peaker plants.
