There is a ton of water pressure from a single fire hydrant, but how does water pressure work? What happens when you open multiple hydrants in a neighborhood are all are being used at the same time? Water pressure drops. Now imagine an entire city needing the same amount of water pressure to put out fires everywhere. What happens to hydrants then? The palisades and malibu have plenty of water, but there's no system built to fight a citywide fire. The fire has spread and destroyed 3x the square miles of Manhattan. Elon Musk brought in a fire chief to explain all of this, on twitter. Probably not what he was expecting lol.

California treats over a massive 100,000 acres of vegetation annually which includes pruning, chipping and yes, creates fire breaks and clearing of and removal of dead and overgrown vegetation. The fire may have started from vegetation catching fire, but it's not burning trees which is spreading the destruction, it's people's houses which are going up in huge conflagrations and then heavy winds carrying those flaming embers for miles to other houses, which themselves turn into enormous balls of flames, only to spread to their neighbors next door or down the block, etc. This scenario is repeated over and over until entire neighborhoods are all up in flames, and then carrying those embers to other neighborhoods.

Newson has invested 2.7 billion in various areas to help prevent wildfires. What some of this money has done is it has created 53 additional fire crews since 2020, a significant amount. An additional 18 helicopters and fixed wing aircraft have also been purchased, many of which will be able to conduct the first ever night time firefighting operations.
