UCF Are The 2017-18 NCAA Football Champions

Let's see how UCF does next year since they will be building an entirely new team from scratch since the coach and the entire staff are leaving for Nebraska. I'll bet they don't have a winning season in the next 4 years.

Doesn't negate what they accomplished this year

Agreed, and consider they beat Auburn with a part time coach and mostly a part time coaching staff.

This is the final poll even though 1 will have never played 2:

Alabama/Georgia winner
UCF
Alabama/ Georgia loser
Oklahoma
Clemson
Ohio State

Auburn should not have lost that game. Despite all of their troubles, they could have tied the game in the last few seconds and we then won in overtime, and then we wouldn't even be having this conversation. If the QB could have gotten more on the ball and thrown it out of bounds, he still had time for more shots into the end zone.

UCF is a good team, but they are not on par with Clemson OK, Bama, or UGA.

Just on par with the team that beat the two in the National Championship?

Look at where UCF's defense was rated, even playing "nobodies".

There is no doubt that they belonged in the playoffs.

They played nobodies, and that is why they were not ranked. Their entire season was made up of playing patsies that Auburn schedules for filler, like Mercer and ULM.

Tough for Auburn then. They shoulda been prepared for this Nobody! Geez, of all the excuses.

Yeah, their championship will be just as good as Auburn's undefeated season in 1993 when they were under a post-season ban. Also, USC's championship was stripped of their title in 2004 while Auburn finished the season ranked at number 2 and also being undefeated, should have been named national champions, but the NCAA never gave it to them.

I can go back to 1993-94 when Auburn was the only team in the top six to win their bowl game and never changed spots in the rankings, staying #3.

UCF needs to move to a tougher conference if they want to run with the big dogs. Otherwise, they can stay on the porch and lick themselves.

Back in the day UNLV's basketball team would play garbage teams all year, then go into the tournament and beat everyone... and it didn't stop them from being ranked #1. UCF can't help being in a shitty conference. Not every team in the country can be in the SEC, Bit Ten, Pac Ten, Big 12, etc. Going undefeated isn't easy even in a shitty conference, and beating Auburn proves how good they really are.

As already stated, Auburn beat Georgia and Alabama this year. The first Georgia game wasn't even close, 40-17.

Auburn beat Georgia and Alabama this year.

excellent point, in fact, Alabama also need to do the right thing and give back the 2012 National Title and recognize the TRUE champion from that season!

Yes, everybody likely knows that I am talking about the Harvard Crimson - the people's champion of 2012!

Harvard beat Yale, 34-24;

Yale beat Georgetown, 24-21;

Georgetown beat Wagner, 13-10;

Wagner beat Colgate, 31-20;

Colgate beat Lehigh, 35-24;

Lehigh beat Liberty, 28-26;

Liberty beat Stony Brook, 28-14;

Stony Brook beat Army, 23-3;

Army beat BC, 34-31;

BC beat Maryland, 20-17;

Maryland beat Temple, 36-27;

Temple beat South Florida, 37-28;

South Florida beat Connecticut, 13-6;

Connecticut beat Louisville, 23-20;

Louisville beat Florida, 33-23;

Florida beat Texas A&M, 20-17;

Texas A&M beat Alabama, 29-24

Ergo; Bama's claim on the National Championship is BOGUS, as any reasonable and clear thinking person can see...

I looked at their schedule, not terribly strong, and they do need to decide which way they're going to go on this.

UCF agreed to play by the standards and rules of the FBS division of the NCAA.

That puts the choices of who gets ranked where in the hands of the playoff committee. Now they don't like what the committee said, so they are calling themselves the "People Choice National Champions"? Hey, they can buy all the trophies and rings they want. Doesn't change the actual rankings.

And it isn't just the playoff committee. The Coaches poll and the AP poll never put UCF above #10 in their polls.

This "People's Choice" nonsense doesn't exist. When did the poll the people? They didn't.

Yes, UCF went undefeated. No, that is not an easy thing to do. But beating the #7 team in a bowl does not automatically put you in the top spot. There were 6 teams ranked higher than auburn. Yes, auburn defeated two of them on their home field. That does not make someone who beat auburn automatically better than those 2 teams.

Iowa beat Ohio State by a MUCH bigger margin than UCF beat auburn. Does that mean Penn State, Michigan, Northwestern, Wisconsin and Purdue should all be ranked higher than Ohio State? Those 5 teams beat Iowa.

UCF should be damned proud of what they accomplished. But trying to claim to be the champion of the people, especially without asking the people, is just pitiful.

if you want to be like Bama, ACT like Bama

claiming National Championships = LEGIT

But when you beat the #7 team AND that #7 team beat both teams playing for the national championship? PLUS you are undefeated?

I think they have a legitimate argument.

UCF barely won their conference championship in double overtime and were one play from overtime in the Peach Bowl. Auburn had a running back at about 50% and their top cover man on defense out of the game. Without injuries, no one could touch Auburn, as evidenced by the UGA and Bama games. UGA won the SEC Championship because Bama beat us up so badly in the Iron Bowl.

UCF could not hang with any of the four playoff teams.

Western Michigan was undefeated before the bowl games last year too. They did not get into the playoffs.

AND LOST IN THE BOWL!

UCF Won

2006 Boise State went undefeated and beat Oklahoma in their bowl game, but one loss Florida won the National Championship. Let's be real, the Bowl Championship series is only for teams from the big conferences. They either need to fix the issue, or go to an 8 game tournament to include the fringe teams. The system as it sits is a farce.

A two loss Oklahoma team made it in and an undefeated team didn't.

My point was that Western Michigan was not in the playoffs. If you don't get in the playoffs, you don't win the championship.

If you want to claim they should have been in the playoffs, then argue with the selection committee. Oh, and with the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll.

And WM would have a legitimate argument had they beat Wisky. But they didn’t.

I’ll say it again. This is what keeps CFB alive and well. There’s always the arguments, even after the season ends!

Mighty Auburn had a month to prepare for an inferior opponent
They left their "A" Game at home

UCF was the class of the field that day. Auburn was lucky to only lose by seven

The problem is, Auburn didn't come to play. Once they didn't make the playoffs, they didn't care. It happens every year. In 2008, Bama lost the SEC Championship in the final minutes of the game. They weren't going to the BCS Championship game. They played flat when they played against Utah. They lost.

The bowl game was the Super Bowl for UCF. For auburn it was their 7th best team to play this season. It didn't matter to them like it would if they were playing in the playoffs.

Is that right? No, of course every team should put their best into it. But when you have 18 to 22 year olds playing, you get emotional letdowns.

And UCF would have been destroyed in the playoffs. Both Bama and Georgia (and to an extent Oklahoma & Clemson) played their top game.
