Two Months Later It's Clear. Tucker Carlson Needed Fox News More Than Fox News Needed Tucker Carlson

On Apr. 24, Fox News announced that its 8 p.m. host Tucker Carlson was leaving the network. The ouster of the most-watched host on cable news sent shockwaves through the political-media ecosystem. It sparked a reporting frenzy to get to the bottom of what actually happened, why he was fired, and what would come next — both for the top-rated cable news network and the most influential hard-right pundit in the country.

Now the dust has settled, it’s clear that Fox News was far more important to Carlson than he was to Fox News — a result that might surprise the Tucker Stans, who insisted his departure was Fox’s death knell.

If you recall my posts about his ouster at the time, I stated that it's not the individual that's the draw in that situation, it's the network.

You can put a donkey in that timeslot on that network and it will do well in the ratings.

They've trained their seals well to not only accept whatever claptrap is spewed there, but to love it.

McNear has now gone the route of all the previous losers before him, obscurity.

This is probably because, after episode 4? 5? You had to sign up to twitter to watch them.

I don't have an account. I can't watch them. I still would, but I have no desire to get another account at a Big Tech platform.

The fact that it may be the death knell for Fox is irrelevant. The only relevant matter is whether TC was happy to move on and how it would affect private goals he may or may not have . Your OP is just attempted party politicking of a speculative nature and for an assumed shabby motive.

From the unread attached article, "Earlier this week, Carlson dropped his seventh “Tucker on Twitter” episode, and as of writing, the tweet has just 14 million views."

Note, when they discuss Fox viewership they pivot to to percentages "Let’s look at how Fox’s ratings are faring. Yes, Fox News saw a sharp decline in viewers following Tucker’s ouster. Prime time ratings dropped 34 percent and the advertiser-coveted adults 25-54 demo dipped 46 percent. But total day ratings saw a less steep dip of 19 percent and 25 percent in the key demo."

When you look at the viewership numbers....."FNC’s 5 PM/ET roundtable program The Five which has been number one in viewership for seven consecutive quarters, continued its streak with both categories, securing 2,591,000 viewers and 254,000 with A25-54. Evening newscast Special Report with Bret Baier (weeknights, 6 PM/ET) averaged 1,743,000 million viewers and 164,000 in the 25-54 demo."
