They’ve been accused of rampant thievery, spending billions of dollars like drunken sailors, groping children and little old ladies, and making everyone take off their shoes.

But the real job of the tens of thousands of screeners at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is to protect Americans from a terrorist attack.

Yet a decade after the TSA was created following the September 11 attacks, the author of the legislation that established the massive agency grades its performance at “D-.”

“The whole program has been hijacked by bureaucrats,” said Rep. John Mica (R. -Fla.), chairman of the House Transportation Committee.

“It mushroomed into an army,” Mica said. “It’s gone from a couple-billion-dollar enterprise to close to $9 billion.”

As for keeping the American public safe, Mica says, “They’ve failed to actually detect any threat in 10 years.”

Sure privatize it. As long as it is paid for by private funds and workers meet training/ background check standards.

Of course privatizing it will be accompanied by tort reform removing the privatized TSA from any liability from it's actions.

You can get a job with TSA protecting America and never had to graduate from High School. Doesn't that make you feel safe. TSA is a joke and it is costing way to much.

Yep it should be paid for by the transportation corporations benefitting from it's services.

Mica creates a big government program and now wants to turn it over to corporations.

Wow, does this ever sound familiar.

An industry self-policing?

That's never worked out.

Yeah man, you have got to keep an eye on private industry.

I heard the incinerated/gassed 6,000,000 Jews.

They invaded the Davidians compound in Waco, Tx and incinerated alive 92 individuals - 20 children.

The fucktards never cease to amaze me.

No thanks.

No more 9/11s. One was to much.

You do realize that it was the government that set the stage for 9-11 right? 9-11 happened shortly after it was announced that pilots could no longer carry firearms. What do you think would have happened if 19 people with box cutters were up against 2 pilots and crew with 9mm glocks with 14 bullets in the clip and 1 in the chamber? I will bet that things would have ended much differently.

But hey, praise Obama, he has done a great job thus far.

and you think airlines, with a profit motive, can do that better than government?

that's really goofy.

and for the record, even if tsa were privatized, there won't be any planes going in or out of any airport unless they meet current screening standards.

The government did not have anything to do with 9/11. Have you forgotten that it was a second attack on the WTC by the same ring of criminals? It was planned years in advance.
