trump's attorneys beg the DOJ not to indict him

Judging from trump's social media post, the meeting did not go well. It's gonna be Two for Two....with Georgia waiting in the wings.
The DOJ has recordings and notes that Evan Corcoran took during his meetings with the big orange buffoon.

Trump's fuckin' MAINTENENCE GUY has a criminal lawyer and is cooperating.

It's just getting deeper and deeper. Whatever happened, illegal or not, will be public.

Meanwhile …

We haven't heard one word from the special counsel assigned to investigate Joe Biden, nothing, silence. So, is the guy appointed actually investigating, or was that all smoke and mirrors?

BTW, Jack Smith has a history of stretching laws and of being overturned by higher courts.

Where is that history you claim? Link, please.

Jack Smith failures with one exception.

Smith’s unit did successfully prosecute Renzi, who was convicted in 2013 for extortion, bribery, insurance fraud, money laundering, and racketeering. The DOJ said the evidence at trial showed the congressman “promised in 2005 to use his legislative influence to profit from a federal land exchange that involved property” owned by real estate investor James Sandlin. Renzi was convicted on 17 counts and sentenced to 36 months in prison in 2013.

Trump pardoned Renzi on his final full day in office, before President Joe Biden’s inauguration, with the former congressman saying he had been “wrongly convicted by a Department of Justice that engaged in witness tampering, illegal wiretapping, and gross prosecutorial misconduct.”

So Jack Smith may well have a personal vendetta against Donald Trump.

In perusing a bit more deeply into this Special Counsel, I have to say it appears that he has a pretty solid background. This doesn’t mean he will be fair and objective enough to decide against a criminal prosecution in this case.

Even if it’s as sketchy a case as the Manhattan DA, Bragg, has brought against Trump, Smith might not be able to make that call. The politics of this situation might just prove too much for him to truly be objective.

But here’s an interesting side note. When Smith prosecuted Governor Bob McDonnell, he secured a conviction. It went to the SCOTUS where the Court unanimously tossed it out. But unlike how the Court tossed the convictions obtained by Weissman, in the Enron prosecution, in the McDonnell case, the conviction was overturned on a legal matter of the scope of “official act.”

Ironically, that very term is being used by President Trump’s legal team in its motion to transfer the NY County indictment into Federal Court. Given the SCOTUS’ holding in McDonnell, team Trump may have an uphill battle.
