Not for Representatives. It's 2 days for Senators & Congressmen. Some positions are 30 days, some are 10 days, some until internment, etc.

Still, lowering Saturday night, should have stayed half-mast until Monday night, not Monday morning. I would have left it until Tues morning, personally. Better a few extra hours rather than cutting it short.

McCain was a war veteran, a war hero, was permanently injured in the service of his country, and served as a his nation for decades as a senator. Respect for the man transcends politics, with bipartisan admiration following his death. McCain sacrificed for his country.

And then there's Trump.....that while never serving himself, and getting out of the draft on 'bone spurs', disparaged McCain's military service. WIth the flag lowered at the White House while its still at half staff in Washington at McCain's death.

I DON'T care. I am just adding a little actual information to this stupid thread. I think the flag is lowered to its knees WAY to much. A couple days for any statesman is enough, I think. But what is CUSTOMARY is to leave it at half mast during the mourning period. McCain is actually going to lie in state at the Capitol, quite a big deal, so you'd think the flag would be lowered as it USUALLY is.

You are incorrect. For Congressmen, it is the day of death and the following day. You are thinking of Chief Justices, as theirs is until internment. Presidents are 30 days and VP's are 10 days. Trump didn't personally order anyone to do anything differently for McCain out of spite. Trump probably wasn't even aware, as he does not micromanage the daily flag raising.
