Byrd did not have a taser on his person.
That's my point. If the only option he had was lethal force, maybe another officer should have been there?
And why is it that lethal force WAS the only option he had? They had no non lethal devices in the capitol building? Their means to quell a riot was to just shoot everyone?
In a riot situation, they should be properly equipped, shouldn't they?
Every barricade up to that point had been breeched because the cops used less than lethal force in trying to stop them.
Apparently not really much resistance, hell, there were officers in the stairwell with the rioters...some of them were giving guided tours! Lol.
There was no other place to retreat to.
Actually there was one more area, and that was the senate chamber. The door they breached lead to a hall with more doors, one of which was the senate chamber door.
Now, I agree, they should have been stopped long before that; with non lethal means. I don't know...had they had a few thousand national guardsmen there, NONE of this would have happened in the first place.
The Congressional chambers were feet away with Congressmen still in them.
So no. Allowing that mob to breech that last barricade was not an option.
I agree, they should have sprayed the shit out of them with pepper spray..that would have probably backed all of them up.
Anyone trying to crawl through the windkw gets tased, if THAT fails, then you start shooting.
And guess what. The attack stopped once that gun fired.
It was the first time all day that the mob was held back
OK, so then you agree that the best way to stop a violent mob is with deadly force? Is that the road were going down?
