Military spending includes: all regular activities of the Department of Defense; war spending; nuclear weapons spending; international military assistance; and other Pentagon-related spending.

Military Spending in the United States

U.S. military expenditures are roughly the size of the next nine largest military budgets around the world, combined.

U.S. Military Spending vs. the World

What's wrong with our military? Is it "depleted" as Trump claims? We already spend 54% percent, a total of $598.5 billion, on military - an amount equal to the total of China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, France, UK, Germany, Japan, India, and South Korea military spending.

Are you people serious? you should maybe find another country if that's how you feel.

the one thing our Federal Government was in place for was to Fund our Military and use them to Protect us ALL from all Foreign and Domestic enemy's

they sure weren't put there to dole out your welfare checks.

and what were each services force levels before O took office and now.......plus youve been pissing away our smart munitions to take out a guy here and a guy there ........not really cost effective way to fight a war......only makes sense if target is high value or people on the ground need support

Trump is full of crap. He spews anything that will get the naysayers and tin foil hat types riled up, and they believe every word, even though the man lies through his teeth every day (as is WELL documented and fact checked). Hell, the man even lies about his own businesses. What makes people think he's not lying about everything else is beyond me.

So, invade country, cause so many problems that ISIS exists, then have to spend lots of money on the military to defeat said militant group.

Who said the Republicans were stupid? They've got everything they wanted, more military spending and more fear to keep the plebs in their place.

Honestly, most of our spending goes into buying armaments and getting the most technologically advanced gear for our guys. The fact that we are reducing global operations should, at least in theory, put a big dent in that budget since we aren't spending millions of dollars to carpet bomb a couple huts with bad guys out in the middle of the desert. The military also really needs to find a way to reduce on the amount of resources it wastes...I've seen some ridiculous things.

"Trump wants to rebuild our "depleted" military - to defeat ISIS"

Another lie from Trump – the military is not 'depleted.'

This is one of many, many good reasons to keep the likes of Trump or any republican out of the WH come 2017, the GOP's propensity for war.

And that most on the right advocate 'attacking' the so called 'Islamic state' using conventional military ground forces demonstrates their their lack of understanding concerning the issue, where all that will be accomplished is more dead Americans in another failed, pointless republican war.

But like with many other things, waste that ends up in the pockets of rich Republican donors is not a thing that people protest against.

Healthcare corruption: Who cares? It's just money for the rich.
Military corruption: Who cares? It's just money for the rich.
Waste money on poor people: Who cares? Well all Republicans who are shocked at corruption and waste.

Money is being spent on things, in the name of the Military, that the Military does not need. Planes they don't fly. Overpriced gas when they can get cheaper alternatives. Simply because some lobbyist paid the politicians to vote for their pet project.

Stop following the dictates of the lobbyist and start allowing those who fight the wars outfit themselves the way they see fit.

Honestly, from what I've seen, there is a lot of military waste due to incompetence or simply not actually being affected if gear is lost / broken / etc. Now, I was more on the ground levels of the operations, so I don't know much about the bidding wars for government contracts, or the higher minded stuff like that. But, I can tell you that, on the ground level, people will almost piss away thousands or millions of dollars just from not caring much about the gear (improper maintenance) or just being an idiot (like if somebody doesn't know how to pack their gear up, we ship it, and it arrives broken because some idiot put some heavy ass shit on top of a fragile piece of gear costing hundreds of thousands of dollars).

Funny - since most of the lobbyists are former military.
