There is a huge difference between when I went to school and when my son went to school...
Especially in mathematics. His was better and faster except in geometry....very deficient in geometry IMHO but excellent in calculus and algebraic expression promotion.
My son excelled in reading and reading comprehension...which the library was helpful but classes were very deficient in teaching English skills and critical analysis and concepts.

Which was my whole problem with his education, zero application for what he was learning. He could do advanced calculus and his reading was off the charts but actually applying those skills as useful skills was completely absent.
History? That was nothing but propaganda to begin with. Always had been.

Data and sound bytes that work for a game show contestant but couldn't change a flat tire or figure out how much oil to buy and which filter for an oil change.

A screwdriver doesn't have any meaning if you don't know what it's for.....And he was in one of the best school systems available in the US.
