The US is not serious about fighting the drug problem

If they were, they would be doing this

Additionally, they would not let the drug dealers out of jail like they do.

They refuse to fight and then declare the war unwinnable.

First of all, I don't view this war as winnable. That is a false narrative. It would be akin to saying we can't beat heart disease so why try? No, it is not winnable, but it could and should be fought and do it much better than they do.

The problem is, there is no real money in protecting the lives of Americans, much like there is no real money in stopping abortions.

But there is money in selling drugs and/or having abortions, which is why they reign supreme.

My guess is most, it not all, of the Swamp is taking a cut from the cartels to look the other way.

US has tackled the problem all wrong...

It is near impossible to control supply, everyone has tried and it simply doesn't work... You reduce the supply and price goes up and it becomes more lucrative to take bigger chances..

You have to work on demand... Portugal experiment is very interesting... If you have a drug problem, you goto your Doctor, he perscribes you an alternative or similar drug and they work on a plan to get you off them.. Treatement and Drugs are free..
They have less Drug users than almost all countries in Europe

Compare them to Spain..
And those number are way better than US..

Yep, that is Big Phama supplying the drugs... But Portugal gets a huge discount buying in bulk.

There is a lot of this work done already and that is why I am saying that treating Drug Cartels like Terrorists is just misindetifying them. Drug Cartels are way larger, better funded, have large complex network and have different motives than Terrorist Organisations...
They use Army resources and advisors when it makes sense but they are not fighting Terrorists...

I think there seems to be some misconception that organisations are treating Terrorists are worse than Drug Cartels... They are not, they just have to deal with them differently..

You could propose just round peopl up and with no trail lock them up for years mainly because of tattoos like El Salvador... BTW, that break so many constitutional laws, he is a dictator and the whole Citizens Rights thing has been sidelined.. Seems more like TRUMP is demanding accountability for US aid. We've been sending these countries aid to fight the drug cartels for decades and the problem has only intensified.

What does the order say?

The order says cartels are a national security threat in a way that traditional organized crime is not. They have conducted a "campaign of violence and terror through the Western hemisphere" with destabilizing effects, including a flood of "deadly drugs, violent criminals, and vicious gangs" into the United States.

It also says the cartels, as well as two transnational gangs rooted in Central America, pose a national security threat to the U.S., and it says it is American policy to "ensure the total elimination of these organizations' presence in the U.S."

The order instructs the U.S. State Department to recommend, within 14 days, whether to designate the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Is a drug addict more likely to get a costly drug treatment (with weeks of 24 hr care followed by consulting, drug replacement, employment reintroduction....) or an even more costly Prison Sentence?
The profit margin of Prison is much better..

Also closing the border is a joke statement... Are you suggesting closing all flights? Refusing all passports of Mexican Citizens from anywhere in the world...
