Interesting that you said someone who actually ran something but not ran it effectively or efficiently. The enlisted people and lower rank officers tend to be more effective in getting things done than the Generals. I know this is a radical idea but how about seeing how he does the job before trashing him.
Well...there's logic to it. But people don't actually scrutinize it. They think if we buy more guns, tanks, airplanes, etc. it'll prevent war. It won't. Ukraine, for what it's worth, had plenty of guns, tanks, and aircraft. It was missing one key thing, though. A nuclear deterrent. Nuclear deterrents are how you achieve peace through strength. During the Cold War, the superiority of the Warsaw Pact over NATO forces in terms of conventional weapons was overwhelming. So why didn't they attack? Because nukes make all those conventional forces worthless. Same thing on the Korean Peninsula today. North Korea is probably not even the size of Texas. Our conventional forces have them beat to hell and back there. So why hasn't the US invaded North Korea? Nukes.
In the end, it’s merely a position designed to enrich and empower the MIC.
And literally I don't think a single time has it been for a good reason.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., applauded Trump’s selection, calling Hegseth a “great choice.”

Well, I'm not opposed to building up our nuclear arsenal. Because that actually works as a deterrent. But a lot of people think that peace through strength means massive conventional buildups and interventionism.
