It's not just American lives that have been lost but our allies have suffered because of his lack of support. When he pulled troops out of Syria he knew that it would adversely affect our Kurdish allies in the region. As a result of that Turkey launched attacks on the kurds on Syria killing hundreds and forcing thousands to relocate. Afghanistan was even worse. When he negotiated our withdrawal.out of that that country with the enemy Taliban. He abandoned all of our allies there. Although trump signed an agreement stating that no Afghans would be murdered when the Taliban took.over ( amnesty agreement ) At least 218 people in government positions died or " disappeared ". You don't trust the enemy. He handed over the country to the enemy. No one could trust US when he is president. No one should trust him period. He is not a reasonable person.

Something occurred to me yesterday -- Those of us across the political spectrum who have been horrified by this calamity have always asked "what would Trump have to do for you to leave the cult?"

It's looking like it won't be one thing. It will be cumulative. Chinese water torture. He'll just keep doing and saying insane things, and people who have been enabling him will drop off over time.

I don't think that will apply the rubes we see on this board, though. The politicians are looking at this from a cynical career perspective, while for the rubes it is more spiritual and deeply personal.

But this sure is interesting to watch, as awful as it is.

I've looked at this as a progression. I don't see specific signs of dementia. My guess is that it's more likely that his actions are just adding up and weighing on him, he's facing his mortality, and he's acting out in frustration and rage. He's just what he has always been, only amplified.

That's goddamn dangerous, for all of us, considering what he already was.

However, there are Republicans who will follow the MTG model and their "come to Jesus" moment won't be one of mental clarity, it will be political opportunism, because they will (correctly) sense that people have reached the unmistakable conclusion that Trump is nuts, and they want to capitalize on the sentiment, while being on the right side of history.

It won't have anything to do with doing the right thing for their country.
