Everybody here knows I love Donald Trump. But he made a rare tactical misstep in his criticism of Arizona's abortion ban.
Trump's usual MO is to take a very forceful stance that leaves his leftwing critics screaming. Trump should have vigorously defended the abortion ban and at the same time educated America on what abortion really is, the wanton destruction of human lives. He should have flushed the Marxist talking point that abortion has everything to do with a woman and nothing to do with the child being aborted. He would have changed hearts and minds, but also would have called the leftwing media bluff on their incessant lie that most Americans approve of destroying their unborn offspring. They don't. But Trump's pronouncement has unfortunately lent credibility to that lie.
Secondly, Trump would have underlined his greatest first-term achievement, appoint three great Supreme Court justices and got the despised Roe v Wade overturned. As it is, he undermined this great effort.
And thirdly, Trump would have solidified his bona fides as a man Christians could enthusiastically embrace. As it is, Christians will still overwhelmingly vote for Trump, because his positions are far more Christian than the pretend-Catholic Biden. I think Trump will still win, but he could have immortalized himself as a great man and a great president by doing the right thing on the Arizona abortion ruling.
"You can never go wrong by doing the right thing."
Note: I do hold open the possibility the ever-wily Trump is posturing now, and will take a strong stand once elected. But again, I think the right move would have been to come out forcefully right now in favor of the ban.
