Trump imposes 10% tariff on lumber, 25% on cabinets and furniture in another blow to Canadian producers

Removing failed Democrat policies of unconstitutional government control is the polar opposite of "through the government". Good grief, you shouldn't need something this simple explained to you.
You evidently do.

The same government "control" you speak of picks the winners and losers of tax cuts you dumb-ass.
Via donations to the Trump regime.
The government isn't "giving" billionaires money. Allowing them to keep what was already theirs isn't "giving". :lmao:
BS.

Feb 26, 2025 — Musk and his businesses have received at least $38 billion in government contracts, loans, subsidies and tax credits, often at critical moments.
What are you talking about? The free market is a system. It has no money to give, and it has not ability to give it. It's not a person. It's not a company. It's a type of system. 🤦‍♂️
Yeah............CORRUPT.
It's so sad to see you repeating outrageous left-wing lies that basic common sense instantly defeats.
Like I stated, you believe your own BULLSHIT.
Like Trump.

A $63 billion trade deficit last year is peanuts to our economy.
Do you even hear yourself? You're so thoroughly defeated by logic, reason, facts, and common sense that your argument has deteriorated into "$63 billion trade deficit last year is peanuts to our economy".

1. $63 billion is a ton of money. If you started counting on the day you were born, you wouldn't live long enough to count to 63 billion. Hell, you wouldn't live long enough to count to 5 billion. Small businesses make up the overwhelming majority of companies in the US - not a one of them will make $63 billion in their entire existence.

2. We could have a $63 billion trade surplus to our economy. Why accept any deficit at all when we don't have to?

Let me guess, you're a weak Canadian who is upset that the left-wing policies you supported are collapsing your nation, so now you want to blame the US for not bailing you out and keeping you afloat?

The same government "control" you speak of picks the winners and losers of tax cuts you dumb-ass.
Again, that is the polar opposite of the government "picking winners and losers" (which is what the Dumbocrats do). Allowing people or corporations to keep what was already theirs is not "giving" anyone anything :lmao:

Seriously, are you under the age of 12? This is small children logic that you're spewing.

Feb 26, 2025 — Musk and his businesses have received at least $38 billion in government contracts
That's just business, sweetie. The government needs goods & services to function. It often turns to the private sector for those goods & services (because the private sector does everything better and more efficiently).

Both Dell and HP provide computers to the federal government via government contracts. Why aren't you crying about that? Do you expect the federal government to manufacture their own computers? 🤦‍♂️

What are you talking about? The free market is a system. It has no money to give, and it has no ability to give it. It's not a person. It's not a company. It's a type of system. 🤦‍♂️
Yeah............CORRUPT.
Again...it is a system. It cannot be "corrupt". It cannot be moral or immoral. It cannot be ethical or unethical. It cannot be good or evil.

Furthermore, if you had an ounce of integrity, your outrage would be at the corruption of government. Every atrocity in the history of the planet was done by a government.

The Holocaust? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.

The Tuskegee Experiments? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.

The thousands of genocides throughout history? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.

Still no link supporting your data. I am not surprised, instead you choose to attack me personally and that does nothing to bolster your argument. I am an American who did vote for Trump 3 times, but that doesn't mean I'm going to agree with everything he says and does. And quite frankly, his tariffs are ridiculously stupid IMHO, they were stupid when past presidents in both parties did them and they're still stupid today. You on the other hand are a dumbfuck who blindly supports everything Trump says or does.

And BTW, $63 bil is chicken shit to our almost $27 TRILLION economy.

You ever hear of comparative advantage? Sometimes it makes sense to take a small deficit in exchange for greater economic growth.

WOW.
Furthermore, if you had an ounce of integrity, your outrage would be at the corruption of government. Every atrocity in the history of the planet was done by a government.
I'll give you that one.
The Holocaust? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.
No, it was done by cronyism,
Don't think they would have put that up for bids.
The Tuskegee Experiments? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.

The thousands of genocides throughout history? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.
So, what's your point?

You think the US is a "free market"?
Trump really loves you.

Allowing people or corporations to keep what was already theirs is not "giving" anyone anything :lmao:
YES, it is. Why didn't anyone else get to bid?
People don’t get to “bid” on regulations, sweetie. Bless your heart, like all liberals, you’re so confused. We were discussing the removal of regulations so the free market could thrive 🤦🏼‍♂️

Furthermore, if you want to change this conversation to “bids for government contracts”, then all you’re doing is proving one of my points: government is corrupt as hell.

Which begs the question then, what kind of idiot would vote for massive, unconstitutional government? Because voting Democrats is voting for massive, unconstitutional government.

So, what's your point?
That you refuse to place the blame where it belongs: government. Companies in the private market have 0 power over you. In fact, you have power over them. You can choose not to do business with them. Entirely up to you.

The Holocaust? Wasn't done by the free market, sweetie.
No, it was done by cronyism
No, dear. The Holocaust was not done by “cronyism”. It was done by government wielding far too much power.

Which is why people who have studied history - and learned from it - vote for small, limited, constitutional government.

People don’t get to “bid” on regulations, sweetie.
You're FOS.

Awarding a contract for a detention center IS NOT a regulation.
Bless your heart, like all liberals, you’re so confused. We were discussing the removal of regulations so the free market could thrive 🤦🏼‍♂️

So, Trump's corruption could survive is more like it.

Trump's is.
Which begs the question then, what kind of idiot would vote for massive, unconstitutional government?
Trump's cult.
Because voting Democrats is voting for massive, unconstitutional government.
LOL.

No, dear. The Holocaust was not done by “cronyism”.
Yes it was.

If Hitler had not installed HIS yes people the Holocaust may never have happened.
It was done by government wielding far too much power.
No, by one man Hitler having too much power, just like Trump.

With the spineless Congress and corrupt supreme court giving Trump more power with no checks on his tyranny.

Which is why people who have studied history - and learned from it - vote for small, limited, constitutional government.
Maybe you should study them someday.

The Creepy Ones have destroyed our nation, especially in Ontario.

Trump is going to defend his nations industries. I hope he also defends your Constitution from foreign influence and abusers, be they in Canada or China.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday he was slapping 10 per cent tariffs on imported timber and lumber and 25 per cent duties on kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities and upholstered furniture, continuing his tariff assault on global trading partners.

The action is the first in three sectors that Trump said last week would get steep new duties as early as October 1, including patented pharmaceutical imports, and heavy truck imports. Monday's proclamation sets the start of the lumber and furniture duties two weeks later, at 12:01 a.m. ET on Oct. 14.

Trump signed a presidential proclamation laying out his argument that timber, lumber and furniture imports are eroding U.S. national security to justify the new duties under Section 232 of the Trade Act of 1974.

When you have such a large country on your border, that as a friendly country helps secure your border, especially from invasion, you should treat them well.

Trump is just an asshole who doesn't care about anything other than screwing people over. He's screw his own kids over to make a buck.

We have poor politicians too. We have a guy with a high school diploma running Ontario and its billions of dollars. He is under investigation for multiple issues yet, he has somehow avoided accountability but the apparatuses will gladly destroy someone from the "lower caste" who has been speaking the truth and was actually a conduit to closer relations with America.

From the RCMP on down, the Canadian Security Industrial Complex has destroyed our relationship, this isn't on GWB, Obama, Biden or Trump, this is on Canadian apparatuses. You have no idea what they have planned for me, simply for standing up for our Charter of Rights and Freedoms and our relationship with America.

I assure you, if our populations and military were reversed...

Well, it happens. People will vote for the guy who tells the best lies. Check out the UK, people are all voting for Reform, and they've got 19 year olds running councils because the dudes who were supposed to be in charge quit because they never thought Reform would actually win.

But this isn't about Canadian politicians, this is about Trump.

Trump has been singing this tune for 40 years so none of his philosophy on tariffs or addressing nations that exploit the U.S is new. He was elected on this so he obviously was viewed as someone who would bravely confront issues facing America.

At least he is a well educated guy who built a global brand and was in general a major asset for America in attracting positive attention to his country. He isn't some yahoo with a high school diploma who was given special treatment. In fact, Trump was treated horribly by the police apparatus simply because he upset the political establishment.

I was a kid and read his book, did a book report on it. He was to me and many others the American Dream. Success, fame, money, enjoying life. What isn't more appealing to a world of driven citizens than that? It drives capitalism and ambition which is what healthy societies want.

I hope he saves some of us Canadians I really do. If he came out tomorrow and said "we will entertain a special committee committed to listening to Canadian-born citizens who have been treated poorly but generally wouldn't qualify for asylum, we will listen to your case" he would become a global hero for Rule of Law and Due Process.

No more pretending that allies should remain that way without fair scrutiny just because we fought side by side 80 years ago. That's a hell of a long time ago and some jurisdictions have NOT been holding up to their end of the bargain in this relationship.

Thus, you are wrong, this isn't about Trump, it's about poor leadership in the West and nations moving FAR away from the principles that helped us win the Cold War among others. Trump confronting them isn't offensive, it is necessary.

He was elected because it was a choice between two people. He won the Republican primaries because he was loud and told them lies the wanted to hear.

The West won the Cold War because there was a common adversary. Now, you'd think they'd be closer than ever because Russia is back part way to being the USSR. And yet, Trump doesn't care. All the other countries are pretty united, except Hungary and Slovakia in the EU.

All of the countries are united in what? Sending money to Ukraine?

NATO needs to be more than just America. The same European nations who destroyed their own energy infrastructure and send billions to fund Russias oil and war are the same who hit the U.S with heavy tariffs and non-tariff barriers. They are the same who refuse to build their military manufacturing capacity while they laugh at the U.S for not embracing climate change to hurt their own economy.

Wake up. America isn't to blame. Europe is drastically shifting their DNA but they still want the same alliance and relationship with America?

They need to defend themselves from Russia and China. China has to be and is Americas focus for a reason. You can't be fooled by the new shiny object over there, that's what China wants.

Support allies like Israel, Taiwan and others who are surrounded by enemies and who buy U.S weapons. Europe has 400M+ people and they are becoming more like those nations who want to harm America rather than those wanting to be more like America.

Yeah, in keeping things as they are. In keeping freedom, a certain amount of democracy.

NATO has always been more than the US. Trump is just making out it's all about the US, and lying about NATO.

The US went to war in Afghanistan, declared it a NATO event, and guess what, NATO countries went to ATTACK, not defend.

The UK lost 457 troops, Canada 159, France 90, Germany 62, Italy 53 and others 338, with thousands wounded.

All for what? All for the US. And now the US turns around and acts like these countries haven't done shit.

Trump is an ignorant prick.
