I don't either, frankly. Trump is cracking wise, but none of the people he mentions can really believe they have a chance for the nomination. If they are running out of TDS, which is almost as severe among some Republicans as it is among Democrats, they are hurting the cause of stopping trump.

DeSantis is a hundred to one shot, but he is the only realistic alternative to Trump. The TDS strategy should be to back DeSantis and praise him as the guy who will do what Trump promised and failed to do.

I can't figure out what people are doing anymore. I used to be pretty good at predicting what would happen in politics, but lately, I've made predictions that turned out wrong, even though they seemed very obvious when I made them.

I predicted DeSantis would not run in 2024, since it would be political suicide. But damned if he isn't standing on the ledge saying, "and a one, and a two . . . " Maybe DeSantis is hoping for the VP slot, as Lisa558 mentioned.

I doubt Trump would have him on the ticket, even though it might unite the non-establishment GOP voters. Still this idea of being VP for eight years and then seamlessly becoming president for another eight years looks good on paper, but when was the last time that happened?

Nikkie Haley or Tim Scott would have a much better chance to be VP imo. We may well have seen our last double white male ticket from either party.

Why did DeSantis do it? All he had to do was support trump in 2024, and he would have a lock on 2028, as far as the primary. If he really feels that he has to challenge Trump, what he has been doing as far as shipping illegals to sanctuary cities would be rebuke enough for Trump's failure to build the wall.

Having properties in different states is irrelevant. Under the 12th Amendment one of 4 things would have to happen:

#1 Trump would have to change his state of residence. Not just hang out at another property, but actually file to change his residence. That would be embarrassing for him.

#2 DeSantis would have to resign as Governor and would have to change his state of residence. Not just hang out at another property, but actually file to change his residence. That would be embarrassing for him.

#3 Have a Trump/DeSantis ticked and Trump can't use the EC Vote from Florida as one of the two will have to give up those EC votes.
