Trump faces new Jan 6 crisis

Pelosi worked behind the scenes to resolve problems and didn’t allow petty bickering.
Why she was able to get things done.

Republicans don’t engage in negotiations even internally.
It is more important to get your way and if everything turns to chaos…too bad
Worked behind the scenes with thuggery and threats of pulling funds. Guess what? Can’t bribe Trump, Musk or Vivek. They are filthy rich.

Yea…that is the way politics work

Republicans can’t negotiate the most simple compromises
Why Boehner, Ryan and McCarthy left

Representative Carlos Gimenez, a Florida Republican, told Fox News Digital: "If we have some kind of protracted fight where we can't elect a speaker—the speaker's not elected; we're not sworn in. And if we're not sworn in, we can't certify the election."

Representative Claudia Tenney, a New York Republican, told the outlet: "To ensure President Trump can take office and hit the ground running on January 20, we must be able to certify the 2024 election on January 6. However, without a speaker, we cannot complete this process."

That's not a bad thing.

Dissent is good. Don’t want lemmings and yes men in Govt or hypocrites like Hakeem Jeffries

Sure you can. Rewrite, one time sum payment and adios. Happens in business too. When there isn’t any money to pay em and we are $36trn in debt and can’t balance the budget, hard choices have to be made
I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. Businesses have to go out of business and be declared bankrupt. The US government is neither going out of business nor bankrupt.

Yes, we can. Do you want to tell our military retirees to take a hike? My brother is retired Navy. There are plenty of other places to cut.

I get my retirement from the state of Florida that I paid into! They just can't say "Sorry!"

Everyone else, no.

That leaves out a lot of dedicated people who served their nation well. What about civilians that work for the military, like me?

Let's face it. You are relishing a pipe dream. No one is going to lose their pensions. We can just start now and do away with them for future hires. I worked for the federal government for 18 years and I have nothing to show for it except my VA healthcare.

It may be a pipe dream but it should happen. And yes, none going forward sans the three groups I mentioned. We can’t afford it.

You do in business. Buy em out for a lump sum. Because we can’t afford it. Printing money isn’t the answer.
That's not the way it works, and you know it. They can have a severance package. But if they continue to work for you, you must maintain the pension they were promised when they went to work for you.

The military changed its retirement while my brother and I were on active duty. My brother and I could retire at 20 with 50% of my base pay because we were grandfathered in. I was downsized in 1994 to reserve status. My sister-in-law retired with 18 years during the same drawdown. I didn't have 15 years. When my son and daughter joined, their retirement was 40% of base pay at 20 years. They changed it again while my daughter was active allowing her to take a hybrid plan instead of a regular pension. She kept her regular. None of that mattered for most of us, except my brother who had 26 years and got 60 odd percent of his pay.

There can be changes but you have to grandfather older employees in,

I'm sure they'll figure it out
