Why will it take time, if there are no steps? If we can do what you suggest, why not the next election? No fell swoop. It will take some time. But the parties won't change unless we withhold our votes from them. Short of armed revolution, it's the only thing that WILL prompt them to change.
Why would I vote for someone who did not even manage (or bother) to get on the ballot?Of course we can. We must. I'd contend that there ARE people to vote for. But that's missing the point. If you really can't find someone to vote FOR, or write-in, don't vote. That's better than supporting bad candidates.
Who will you write in for the 2028 Presidential race?
That is exactly what Trump did.Nope. The far more likely outcome is that one, or both, of the major parties will change their tune to attract the votes they're leaving behind.
Exactly.
Except he was not a Republican until he announced his run. His primary was more like a corporate hostile takeover or proxy fight, than one Republican running against several others.
The disaffected Democrats and disgusted Republicans did not vote for Trump because they thought he was going to end the rule of the Twoparties. They hoped he was telling the truth when he promised to put America and Americans first. All Americans, not certain preferred groups.
The Republican Party establishment turning on Trump after the voters chose him is an example of two party corrupton taht you should be discussing. Instead, you go along with the Trump hating, giving the establishment exactly what it wants.
Then RCV would be a step in the process. I knew there were steps, and you just didn't want to defend them.Voting reforms like RCV would accelerate this process, but again - we'll have to unseat the entrenched corruption before any meaningful reform can happen.
I see ranked choice voting as a way for people to vote for third parties without throwing away their votes. But it is also a way for a person to win an election, but then have it taken by having their opponents be awarded second choice votes.
Would we eliminate the Electoral College if we had RCV?
