So what is the problem? The $200 million will come from private donors including President Trump himself. No taxpayer funds will be involved. A ballroom would be a nice addition and a way to entertain visiting dignitaries. Pretty much every President leaves his own mark on the White House with some addition or innovation or renovation. A ballroom would be more advantageous to the people than Obama's basketball court or Ford's tunnel to avoid having to go outside to get to the Whitehouse swimming pool or Nixon's bowling alley.

I am not opposed to the idea especially if the taxpayers aren't footing the bill. The East room can only hold a couple hundred people. It isn't particularly large. Besides, before the Obamas redid it, the state dining room used to be the gaudiest thing north of Graceland, so Trump really couldn't do worse.
