Trump Administration Caves: No Citizenship Question On 2020 Census

Trump Administration Drops Bid To Put Citizenship Question On 2020 Census

The decision comes days after the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the administration from adding the question.

There will not be a question asking about citizenship on the 2020 census, the Trump administration said Tuesday.

The decision comes less than a week after the Supreme Court temporarily blocked the administration from adding the question, saying it did not provide an adequate explanation for the addition.

“We can confirm that the decision has been made to print the 2020 Decennial Census questionnaire without a citizenship question, and that the printer has been instructed to begin the printing process,” Kate Bailey, a Justice Department attorney, wrote to lawyers for the plaintiffs challenging the addition of the question.

Kelly Laco, a Justice Department spokeswoman, confirmed in an email to HuffPost there would not be a citizenship question on the 2020 census.

Great news! Now everyone can be counted.
Our citizenship value just dropped a few notches-apparently nobody cares about it anymore.

Well, sparky, consider this: For citizens who live in communities with high immigrant populations who use the roads, attend schools and consume other resources - should those communities be deprived apportioned resources based solely on citizens in the community - like Trump wants to do?

No, the illegals should be deported and then a correct count can begin.

This is disgusting. NFW that question should be illegal. Whoever went to the USSC from Commerce should be shot. The DOJ should have argued the case.
Testimony provides damning evidence Trump administration lied about census citizenship question

I have lost count....How many times has the Blustering Orange Fool folded like a lawn chair?

I'm not sure there has ever been a question on the census that actually ask if you are a citizen. In the 1950 census there was question asking if you were born in the US which did not appear on 1960 census. Democrats want the question dropped because surveys, not the census have ask about citizenship and the results has been lower response rates. Certain questions such as citizenship, religion, country of origin, etc result in lower response rates, so the census bureau does no put those questions on the census in order to maximize responses.

Maximizing responses should not be a goal at all. Counting AMERICANS should be the goal. Quality, not quantity.

One of the reasons for a census is to give the government an idea of how many Americans need to be serviced. Non-citizens don't need to be (except with a deportation order)
However, that is not the way it is and will not be until such time the constitution is changed.

The fact is state and local government do need to service more than just Americans. Each year more than 90 million people legally enter the US, tourists, people visiting friends and family, students attending universities, immigrants, and workers from farm and domestic labor to CEOs add hundreds of billions dollars to the US economy each year. These people just like citizens require services from transportation to law enforcement to maintenance of public facilities to recreational facilities.

Trump got beaten again - by Chief Justice Roberts. Now, I'm curious to see what that fat slug Barr is going to do about it.

If Trump always had the information he needed, why did he need to put it on the census?

Trump, or at least his lawyers from DoJ got caught lying and Roberts wasn't having it. If you read the ruling, it politely calls the Trump team liars and to come back with an honest and believable story. Court did not say the citizenship question could not ever be on a census, they said Trump and DoJ's reason was "contrived. "Contrived" was the polite way of calling Trump and DoJ liars.

Yep, they lied.
