If it has a good audience rating and bad critic ratings, I will watch it

If it has good critic ratings and bad audience ratings, I will stay away

Personally, I find a movie to be "great" if it'll make me stop while channel surfing and watch it, regardless of what point in the movie I happen to find it. So, with that in mind, these are my top 10 at the moment (in no particular order):

• Goodfellas
• Forrest Gump

• The Shawshank Redemption
• A Few Good Men
• Casino
• The Hunt For Red October
• Top Gun
• The Shining

One thing to remember with all of these film mentions... we are talking about the 10 best movies of all time.
Not just a good movie. A great movie.

Mentioned here several times, and one I would probably put on my list as well is Gladiator.
I have seen it 3 times, and will certainly watch it several more times before my clock runs out.
It hits every note.

As usual, audience ratings are more reliable than critics

The critics really like alfred hitchcock and do do i

but they ignored John Ford who was as good or better than any other American film maker

Love Patton. George Scott is perfect for it. And not to be forgotten is Karl Malden also.
I have wanted this movie to be remade for years with modern special effects. But I am afraid too much politics would be implanted.

Like I said, if I stop while channel surfing, that's what makes it a great movie for me.

I'm retired Navy, so movies like Top Gun and Hunt For Red October are perennial favorites...

They obviously love Hitchcock but never got around to naming him Best Director

Ford was a jerk but a master story teller

I just don’t think Gone With The Wind has aged well
The acting and dialogue is kind of stiff and it comes off as a Soap Opera of Slavery. Prissy and some of the slaves come off as Cartoons

Gone with the wind was a really well-done movie Also like the Song Of the South. It is a real classic. I added To kill A Mocking Bird for the same reason. Think on it I ;like Gone with the wind for the same reason I like Wizard of Oz.

Jaws is on the top of my list of horror movies.My Lady friend I knew then refused to take a bath because of that movie. I guess she was afraid the shark would come up from the drain
